🚒 HIGH FIRE DANGER: I sound like a broken record at this point, but High Fire Danger to Very High Fire Danger is returning to Central and Eastern sections of the state on Thursday. The combination of a very gusty southwest wind and extremely dry fuels, due to the ongoing severe drought in many areas outside the mountains, will lead to high fire danger on Thursday!

Dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. Folks in this area are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks, and keep vehicles off of dry leaves and grass.

Farm life is simultaneously beautiful and messy. It's early mornings and late nights, muddy boots and breathtaking sunsets. It's frustrating and fulfilling, exhausting and life-giving, heavy and deeply rewarding.

There are days when everything seems to go wrong and days when the work bears fruit in ways that make every sacrifice worth it. Through the uncertainty, the hard labor, and the constant learning, one thing remains at the center of it all: love.

Love for the land. Love for the animals. Love for the people we're feeding and the life we're building.

Farm life isn't always easy, but it's a life devoted to growing, creating, and stewarding something incredible. And that's a beautiful thing.

These green eating machines do not take a day off. Tomato hornworms will strip a plant faster than a grandkid can empty a cookie jar.

If you are going organic, you need to understand the 3 main Bacillus thuringiensis strains and what they actually do.

Bacillus thuringiensis is a naturally occurring soil bacteria. It is organic, targeted, and has been used safely in gardens for decades. It is not a poison that wipes everything out. It is precision warfare for the homestead.

When these green eating machines show up, you better know which Bt to grab.

1️⃣ Bt kurstaki
This is your caterpillar killer. Hornworms. Cabbage worms. Loopers. Armyworms. They must eat it. Once they do, it disrupts their gut and they stop feeding almost immediately.

2️⃣ Bt israelensis
This one targets mosquito larvae and fungus gnats. It works in standing water or as a soil drench. Different pest family, different mode of attack.

3️⃣ Bt tenebrionis
This strain goes after beetle larvae like Colorado potato beetles and certain leaf feeding beetles. Not caterpillars. Totally different target.

Here is the key.
Bt is pest specific. If you use the wrong strain, you are just watering leaves.

It only works on larvae.
It must be eaten.
Sunlight breaks it down.
Reapply after heavy rain.

Organic does not mean weak. It means precise.
