Ranching keeps you humble. Just when things are looking up, life knocks you back down. Raising cattle comes with a lot of joy, hard work, sweat, tears, a lot of unknowns, and the question why more times than we can keep track of. As soon as you think you have it figured out, think again.
If you get into cattle, don’t expect it to be profitable. It’s typically just an expensive hobby every way you look at it. Yet, we do it anyway because we LOVE our cows the way people love their dogs. Every loss hurts tremendously and it always happens when you least expect it.
We have survived droughts, “floods”, ice/snow, and everything else under the sun, but last night lost to lightning (or at least seemed to be the culprit). Mother Nature is unpredictable and keeps reminding us that even though we do everything we possibly can, we are not in control.
Our hearts are hurting, but we will survive this once again and keep moving forward for her beautiful baby girl. 💝 Scarlet, I hope you are being hand fed all of the cubes you can eat!
