Planting veggies on Sunny March 6th! We planted very early in the season. We were prepared for the bitter cold fronts and high winds that were to come. Last year we planted on April 1st and our temps heated up quickly and slowed production. These photos of planting were taken on March 6th. Our plants have grown tremendously and our seeds are now healthy plants!

After breaking new ground, the tree stump is gone!! 3/5/23

March 5th we removed a tree stump from one end of our veggie garden. Burning the stump for days and the base roots remained. Brian got his skid steer and dug it out! He carried off the remnants with the tractor.
He packed the soil and covered the hole with the loader bucket.

The soil was very soggy due to our recent heavy rainfall from the storm.

Looking to put some plants in the ground & get the spring garden going? Cautious optimism: looks like you can start digging!

We are coming up on the average date for the last freeze in the Brazos Valley. Looking down the line, forecast lows are WAY above average in the 60s through the weekend & only dropping to the low/mid 50s next week. The extended data into the beginning/near mid-March currently keeps temperatures far from the 30s locally.

The disclaimer here: we typically find one or two more late-season cold snaps that can bring a freeze or frost. Keep an eye out going forward into March & maybe even April.

Tomatoes and Cucumbers compete for the same nutrients in the soil.
Do not plant near each other!

If you want an abundance of each, plant at least three rows apart. It helps to till fertilizer under before planting and again once they start producing. Do not over fertilize!

Always remember they do not like each other!

It is also important to remember rotation planting each year!

Blessed by recent rain! Our stock tank is full. I bet the fish 🐟 are happy! Those big ole bass are hiding deep below the surface!
