I am forever full of Thanksgiving for these two brave women. My sister Katie quite literally saved my life by donating her kidney to me in April, and my friend Brianna gave me life when our son, Jack River, was born in September via surrogacy. Words cannot express what a humbling experience it is to receive such selfless and life-changing gifts.
Thank you to all of you who supported all of us through this year, the medical teams that made this possible, and to Hope Surrogacy for helping us find the perfect match with Brianna and her husband, Mike, and their two daughters to bring Jack into the world. Not only did Lee and I gain a son, but we gained great friends.
Thank you to Katie‘s husband, Chris who held down the fort by taking care of their two girls, Ellie and Lucy and to my sister, Lizzie and husband Sean who opened their home and cared for us post transplant. To my mom who was supermom, personal chef, nurse, and everything else in between. To my dad who was there every step of the way. And to my amazing husband who is my rock.
I am so inspired by how big acts (and small acts too!) can change a community, how are you feel in it, and inspire you to pass it on.
Holding my son and knowing we have a full and healthy life ahead of us is the most amazing feeling in the world. I am happy he gets to grow up in a community full of people like Katie and Brianna.
