Strawberry Summer Salad was a family hit but Mama needs a hump day pick me up, ya know? 🍸🙋🏻‍♀️

Hang onto those extra ripe strawberries because they are begging to be muddled into a Strawberry Limonata!

Strawberry Limonata

4-6 large ripe strawberries
3 mint leaves
1.5 ounces (or 3 💁🏻‍♀️) gin or vodka 5 ounces of simple syrup (or honey)
Limonata
Crushed ice

In a shaker, muddle cut strawberries and mint, add simple syrup, gin or vodka and ice. Shake until frosty. Strain into glass with crushed ice, top with SanPellegrino Limonata or lemonade of your choice. Garnish with fruit and mint. (Swap fruit seasonally).

If I look ridiculously smitten it is because I am! What a treat to eat out this weekend at Le Petit Cafe and share the same orbit as JacquesPépin.

A total gentleman, Chef Pepin obliged my indulgence for a handshake and a picture.

He has inspired me for years to cook with love and happiness. It’s that simple.

❤️🍽❤️

Still working hard in the Mama Basta home kitchen thinking up ways to connect you with my favorite meals! Stay tuned 😘

Today was the last Sunday the family had to spend at the business kitchen. The kids made games in the parking lot and entertained themselves for a few hours as they have for so many other weekends this past year while dad and I toiled away in the kitchen. Instead of preparing our normal weekly meals for customers, today we emptied the refrigerators and washed the dishes for one last time.

We closed the chapter of our start up meal delivery business after one year of giving it a great shot. There was so much learned in this process and we only wish we were able to keep the doors open a little bit longer and keep the ovens on for a few more meals.

One awesome thing that came out of our business was learning to cook together. Although my husband and I have been together almost 20 years we never actually cooked a lot together. By force of circumstance we learned to in the last year.

Tonight we came home and made Sunday dinner something we have not done in over a year. This time we cooked it together and I just know my grandma was looking down and pleased as punch that while we may not be rolling meatballs for the masses we were making them for the family and that is good enough.

People keep asking if we will continue to make food and if we will keep Mama Basta open for business in some capacity. For now we are not really sure what the future will bring but you can be sure we will be sharing all sorts of food content.

For now we are going to savor every hot meal together as a family while we can and never take for granted the smell of home cooking again. 🍝❤️

Today there was no prep to do, no dressings to make and no sauce to stir. Instead our youngest continued to master her new skill of bike riding and tackled the uphill. She was victorious. I was lucky enough to be there to watch.
Today also marked the last day of business for Mama Basta, leaving more time for family milestones and new adventures. The future is full of hope.
We are so grateful to have served you, our loyal customers over the past year.
I still can’t believe I was able to cook and share my recipes as well as those of my grandma and mother with you all.
I have enjoyed filling so many bellies with the help of my valuable and loyal employee Hayley J. Wilmot and my husband Joseph.
While Mama Basta meal service will no longer operate I will always keep the stove on and the meal idea wheel house spinning.
Thank you again for supporting our family business since the start - our loyal customers kept the business going and we are ever grateful to have served you.
All my love,
Nicole Ball

A mother’s love is boundless. When the recipe is just right it’s equal parts, friend, supporter, voice of reason, comfort giver, and example setter. I am so lucky to have a mom like mine. One who loves me unconditionally and has taught me how to love others the same. She has always led her life with kindness and generosity giving of her time and always her food. She is the backbone of my desire to serve others, cook every day and make sure all the people in my life are overfilled. She is the queen of plenty of sides at the dinner table and though she’s as skinny as a rail she’s always made sure those around her have been fed. In so many ways. Happy Mother’s Day to my mom and to all the lovely moms in my life and to the Mamas who use Mama Basta. We see you and we got you! ❤️🍽💐
