Black Rock Ranch would like to welcome the newest member of the SECURITY DEPARTMENT.

📝 Diesel’s hiring process was somewhat unconventional. A friend found him dirty and wandering along a highway. She tracked down his owner, who didn’t want him back, and she couldn’t keep him. So Diesel ended up at Black Rock Ranch.🖤

🐺 Šarplaninacs are a rare, ancient livestock guardian breed from the Šar Mountains of the Balkans, bred to protect flocks against wolves and bears. One word used to describe the breed is “incorruptible,” and I can’t think of a better fit for BRR. 🐻

🧸 At 8 weeks old, though, Diesel’s responsibilities consist mostly of napping, cuddling, chewing on things that don’t belong to him, and being carried around by management.🖤

🔥🐕 **When wildfire came for his home, Odin refused to abandon the animals in his care.**

In **2017**, the devastating Tubbs Fire tore through California's Sonoma County, forcing the Hendel family to evacuate.

But there was one problem.

Their young **Great Pyrenees named Odin** refused to leave the eight goats he was responsible for guarding.

As the wildfire spread rapidly across the property, the family had no choice but to flee without him.

Then they waited.

When Roland Hendel finally returned, the scene was heartbreaking.

Buildings had burned.

Vegetation was scorched.

The landscape had been transformed by the flames.

But somehow, Odin had survived.

And so had **all eight goats**.

Even more remarkably, several wild deer had apparently gathered near the animals and remained close to Odin after the fire.

Odin was only around **18 months old**, but his livestock-guardian instincts had taken over.

He didn't run.

He didn't abandon his herd.

He stayed.

Through smoke, flames, and destruction, he remained beside the animals he had been trusted to protect.

🐐❤️ **For Odin, guarding the herd wasn't just a job.**

It was a responsibility he wouldn't abandon—even when the entire world around him was burning.

Sometimes courage doesn't roar.

Sometimes it simply stays where it's needed most.
