Michigan Yakkers LLC

Michigan Yakkers LLC This business is closed. This site is maintained to preserve memories. Farm closed operations in 2019. We raise many heritage breeds.

Michigan Yakkers was a yak meat and breeding stock producing farm in the State of Michigan. We believe in trying to encourage re-population of breeds that are part of our history. Due to the commercial meat industry, many hybrids, which are incapable of reproducing naturally, have overtaken the meat market. This has created a situation where natural breeds have been deemed as no longer necessary.

My beautiful Super Woolly bottle boy is weaned, and ready to go to a new farm family. He is about six months old, and such a sweetheart. His pedigree is quite impressive, with LDR Ragnar and AF Mabel as parents. He is going to be very, very Woolly. He’s an Imperial Trim (has a white tip on his tail and a bit of white on a hind foot). Asking $3,500. Will be registered upon being sold.

We are offering this group of yaks for sale with a son of LDR Ragnar as the future herd sire. This young bull will be two years old in May, and will be ready to breed this Fall. He can be registered in the Foundation herd book upon being sold. The cows in this herd were registered in the IYAK Appendix book. They should all be bred by LDR Ragnar. I have included information about each, as captions in their pictures. We are asking $20,000 for this group, if picked up before calving begins (usually starts up in mid May here). New Price $10,000 for this great group of yaks.

We are offering this group of yaks for sale, as the ‘Cream of the Crop’ herd. These are the best of our best. I have included descriptions of each, as captions in their pictures. LDR Ragnar produces beautiful Imperial or Imperial Trim calves the majority of the time, regardless of the cow’s color. We keep him with his ladies year round, so the girls should be bred. We are asking $30,000 for this group, if picked up before calving. Calving usually begins here in mid May. Registration information in pictures.

The time has come for Tom and I to find another farm home for our animals. We have spent the past eight years culling and selective breeding our Katahdin Sheep, focusing on excellent hair shed. Our current flock sheds their hair very well, and they are varied in color and patterns. We have 13 ewes and about five ewe lambs (one ewe is still due to deliver). We will be keeping all ram lambs. We are offering this group of lovely Katahdin ladies for $3,000.00. Please message me if interested.

We have another one. This little guy was born at some point, this morning. Mom accepted his twin brother, but not him. Sadly, we found him squashed underneath a water trough, wailing for help. We brought him home and I jumped in the shower with him. He got cleaned up, then chugged a whole bottle of colostrum. He’s a big, strong boy! He’s about twice as big as little Patty. He’s now happily napping in my lap. ❤️

Due to my Golden Rule (no one on this farm sleeps without a mama on their first day of life), this is my current sleeping situation. It’s the couch for Ms. Patty and me tonight. 🍀
