This past Tuesday evening, 3.7.17, we started planting seeds. A little behind schedule for the peppers and tomatoes which go into the high tunnels, but right on time for the cabbage. Grandma Helen planted 864 cabbage seeds (she vetoed the use of the picture of her planting, and she has rank so what can I say) and I planted 576 between peppers, tomatoes, brussels sprouts, lettuces, and herbs. By Friday evening, with the aid of the heat mat, some of the cabbage and tomatoes were already poking through, and they look pretty cool tonight as you can see. For planting small seeds, I developed a system using a little rubber tube with a couple different sized tips. With one end of the tube in my mouth, I make a little suction and pick the seed up out of the palm of my hand with the appropriate tip. I can place it with complete precision. (Joanne says I "suck" at planting ;) ) Spring fever is here at Geinert Gardens! - Tim
