Thanks to Mark Bittman and ISU more people understand what we Iowa farmers face, and that there are "non-conventional" options surfacing. Four years ago The Spain Farm seven siblings made the intention of not contributing to the dead zone. It is now 100% chemical free.

A creative new approach to Midwestern agriculture, involving indigenous prairie plants, has the potential to unite farmers and environmentalists.
