Seeing so many emerging brands and new ideas in one place was a great reminder of where food and health are headed.

Our Food as Medicine team had the chance to attend the 2026 Nourishing Change Conference in Des Moines, co-hosted by Kroger and Hy-Vee

It was nice having this event right in our backyard.

We enjoyed meeting people who care about making healthy food easier to access. We had a lot of good conversations, made great connections, and came back with new ideas for our team.

For us, this work starts with the basics.

Good food. Reliable sourcing. Careful packing. Strong partnerships. And making sure the right food gets to the right people.

Thank you to everyone who shared their time, ideas, and conversations with us. We are excited to keep learning and keep doing our part.

Last week, members of our team attended the Food as Medicine Summit in Chicago and came back encouraged by the conversations happening across the industry.

From healthcare and insurance to nutrition, food sourcing, fulfillment, and community programs, one thing stood out: Food as Medicine is moving from big ideas into real programs that need to work well for the people they serve.

A few reflections from our team :

“As someone newer to this space, it was eye-opening to see how many groups are working together to advance Food as Medicine. I’m excited to keep learning and support programs that can make a real impact.”
— Calvin Steemer

“This was my first time attending the Food as Medicine Summit, and it exceeded my expectations. The energy in the room made it clear that Food as Medicine has real momentum.”
— Curt Turner

“One of my biggest takeaways was that reliable ex*****on is what turns Food as Medicine from a good idea into a real program. These programs need scalable sourcing, strong fulfillment resources, and the ability to handle everything from fresh produce and pantry items to frozen proteins.”
— Mike Schmitt

We’re grateful to be part of these conversations and excited to keep helping build practical, scalable programs that serve real communities.

Some days call for ice cream.

After earning a 100% audit score, we brought in Home Sweet Cone Ice Cream to help us celebrate.

Last week, we shared a blog from our CEO about why this score matters. This week, we just wanted to say thank you to the team that made it happen.

We’re proud of this group and grateful for the care they bring every day.

Yesterday, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo the CCF way: with a salsa contest.

It was a pretty perfect mix of fresh produce, good food, and a little friendly competition. Team members brought their best recipes for three categories: Spicy, Mild, and Other.

Thanks to everyone who made salsa, tasted salsa, voted, and helped make the day fun. Congrats to our winners, and thanks for giving us one more reason to enjoy good produce together.

Capital City Fruit will be at the Food as Medicine Summit next week in Chicago.

If you’re attending, stop by and see us at Booth 4. We’d love to connect and talk about how flexible food support, reliable fulfillment, and fresh sourcing can help programs deliver vital nutrition when, where, and how people need it.

See you May 5–7!

Some of our Food as Medicine team will be at Food Health LIVE next week down in Tennessee.

We're looking forward to the conversations around practical Food as Medicine programs, strong partnerships, and where the Food as Medicine space is heading.

If you’ll be there too, say hi.

You shouldn't have to wonder where your produce has been.

It’s something we take pride in, and it’s the standard we hold ourselves to every day. That is why we keep the right certifications, audits, and systems in place to support traceability, compliance, and consistent handling from start to finish.

That includes:
• PrimusGFS with a 100% score in 2024, 2025, and 2026
• USDA GAP
• FDA compliance
• Third-party audits
• Traceability systems
• ReposiTrak for FSMA compliance

The goal is simple. Fewer surprises. More confidence. One less thing for our customers to worry about.

Getting consistent, high-quality produce year-round takes more than just filling orders. Here’s how we follow the growing season, watch field conditions, and keep hitting your specs 12 months a year.

As growers ourselves, we know quality starts long before harvest.

That’s why we work with regional, national, and international growing partners throughout the year to source produce at its best.

We keep a close eye on the season, the weather, and how crops are coming along in the field. That gives us a better read on what’s ahead and helps us adjust when conditions shift.

By staying connected to the season and sourcing from the farms delivering the best product at the right time, we’re able to keep quality steady and keep hitting specs for our customers.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us. Felt like a good day to give cabbage a little credit. It always shows up, does its job, and ends up on a lot of tables this time of year.
