This post is a long overdue tribute to our crew manager/carrot weeding sorceress/ Interim Farmer, Lindsey Perriman Lindsey .Ā
When Lindsey first came out and worked with me 4 years ago I quickly realized I needed to hustle to keep up with her pace weeding. She was also so clearly capable - seeing three steps ahead in a given farm task. I often wondered how I got so lucky to have her help when it seemed like she could already be running her own farm!
Working on the farm crew with Lindsey was always the best part of the week. She knows how to get people connecting with each other while harvesting lettuce on a beautiful, cool morning. Even in sweltering heat when we're all covered in mud and smelling like fish emulsion she knows how to keep people's spirits up.
Way back when I first found out I was pregnant, Lindsey was the second person I told after telling my partner! I knew if there was any chance Lindsay would take charge of the farm while I would be out later the next year, everything would be in the best hands.
Becoming a parent while running a farm is not for the faint of heart, and I could not have done it without Lindsey. She took the reins with great skill and kept everything moving - managing the crew, staying on top of planting schedules, and making sure CSA shares went out without missing a beat. I am endlessly grateful.
She honestly could have moved on to better paying and more consistent work long ago, but I'll always remember how she had my back at a really vulnerable time of my life. If I ever have the opportunity to return the favor I want her to know I've got her back as well.
Thank you for all the laughter, heart-to-heart conversations, all the farming techniques I've learned from you, and all the precious time I've gotten to spend with my daughter in this past year plus because of your help.
Lindsey has accepted a farm manager position at Heritage Farm and today is her first day! They couldn't have found a more capable farmer than Lindsey. Great things are in store over there. I'm so excited to see her get to steward land and nourish living systems following her own vision and getting to see the fruits of her labor.
