2026 garden season is officially over after a hard frost and 32° last night. Mid-October is the typical time to end a season but keep in mind the cool spring that preceded that slowed things a bit… every year fluctuates. Some with mild weather, some hot, some dry, some heavy rain, fires causing smoke in the sky, pests, lack of bees, bad seed, or weeds when the gardener is away. There are so many variables that make it flourish or fail. You get what you get despite your efforts as well. It’s a labor of love…and luck. May your time of rest and restoring prepare you for whatever lies ahead. See ya next year.

Oh my goodness what a gift! I feel so seen today. A dear one gifted me this seemingly odd tomato. It has seen better days. It has been beat up a little bit and possibly nibbled upon, but it was gifted anyway. Why? Because, she knows a gardener could turn it into something so much more after a bit of rest and care. As tomato plants wither and drop their leaves, some see the change of seasons as a time of sadness and despair with the fading of green colors and the loss of being surrounded by summer beauty. As the fall colors set in then quickly begin to fade, gardeners begin reevaluating possibilities maybe not seen in this years harvest. This disheveled gift bolts forward with inspiration, admiration, and hope. For next year, the seeds held within, will inspire not only myself but others as they wait for its reemergence. It’s hidden abundance to flourish. It’s lineage and heritage will be carried along to the next generation. It brings excitement and hope after a long winters rest- it enlivens my soul. Thank you, dear one, you have no idea what this little bu**er did for my heart. Thank you many times over!

Well that’s different… as the Minnesotans say. After last year’s hiatus, it’s not the garden like the past. It was only supposed to be a small row of beans and possibly a “few” peas to test things out. I’m trying out some new growing techniques. 2026 garden season started!
