This Saturday will be your first opportunity to get a taste of Oak Union in Downtown Milwaukie! Come down to the corner of Main and Monroe and see what's brewing in our space! Peek around the taproom to see our progress and while you're here, grab a smash burger or a pretzel to have alongside our b**r!

The time has come!

My vision now becomes our vision. We're looking for individuals for both the front and back of house that can help us birth Oak Union into Milwaukie's thriving downtown. We're about a month away from opening and we want to open with a team of amazing individuals. There's something special brewing right now and we're looking for the best of the best!

Project Update 2: Operation Backsplash

752 end grain blocks cut from 17 cedar beams. Each of those were then cut a further two times to ensure they are uniform in size. Pure. Insanity. But, we have a vision!

When this is done, you won't find anything else like it. The end grain cuts are at an angle and arranged in a starburst pattern that will emanate from a backlit Oak Union logo. Everything we do, we're going to do it with the intention of being the best. Whether it's b**r or our space, we want Oak Union to be awesome and memorable.

And lastly, thank you to all of my friends and family who helped me complete this portion of the project! This would've been so, so, so much harder without you. I appreciate you all so much!

The picture above was from our honeymoon 9 years ago. We ended it in Munich at Oktoberfest and we were lucky enough to be joined by our best friends. It was an epic experience and it's something I'd love to bring to downtown Milwaukie next year!

760 6”x6” end grain cuts will adorn our bar back splash. They will be arranged in a starburst pattern coming from our back-lit logo. Each one of these puppies will be charred and sealed and then placed into a predetermined grid pattern.

I haven't taken a full proper day off in weeks. Here I am on a Sunday morning, working away while the city of Milwaukie is bustling behind me for a farmer's market and multiple other events. Curious people stop to look in and see what's going on. They usually have pleasantries and questions about what's happening in our space.

But, today... I faced my first Karen. She interrupted my work just to tell me that Milwaukie isn't big enough for two restaurants. That's right. Two whole restaurants. Not only is her math off on the food options, she had the audacity to try and bring down a total stranger. What even compels someone to be such a turd?

So, Karen. This is for you.

Game on.

Saturday, 09/12, is Elktoberfest! This event is coordinated and put on by Day One Distribution and the Milwaukie-Portland Elks Lodge. We'll have four b**rs there for you to enjoy, including one that hasn't even been released to the public yet! Come check us out from 2-9PM and get a taste of what's to come at our new spot in Milwaukie! You don't have to be a member to come drink some amazing b**rs!

Fresh Hop season is in full swing! We're kicking off the season with Indie Hops LLC Strata grown at Coleman Agriculture. We use Strata in our Oregon B**r Awards award winning Green Idol West Coast Pilsner.

This year, according to Operations Manager Max Coleman, Strata should provide a hefty dank note. I'm looking forward to seeing how dank we can get this year's Idol! Can't wait to share with you all!

An update!

I've been relatively quiet on social media due to one factor: I'm the busiest I've ever been in my life! But, I know there are many people out there who are very interested in the happenings at 10909 SE Main St.

First, the most obvious. The exterior facade is now completely repaired and a fresh coat of paint has been applied! Relatively shortly we'll be hanging a back-lit powder-coated black steel Oak Union sign on this corner. You'll soon have a soft glowing beacon to guide you to a Milwaukie-owned brewery! When we get closer to opening, we'll also get the remainder of our signage done in the windows.

On the inside, progress is picking up. The concrete floors have been grinded and polished, the wood floors are being refinished right now, framing is up for the bar and kitchen, electrical lines and outlets are being ran, interior wall repair is happening, plumbing commences next week, dry wall will wrap up in early September, and I'll start working on the bar build out the first week of September. Our haus will be built out of Oak. Oak bar top. Oak tables. Oak cabinets. Oak Union.

We aim to be open by the first week of October. Our scheduled hours will be 11-11 to start, with minors being allowed until 9PM. After that time, it will be adults only.
