I have wanted to make a farm post for quite a while. All kinds of things have been going on. I have fenced and re-fenced the chickens, and finally I seem to have found the most perfect setup for them and myself. They are now along the hill, no longer getting out, and I do not have to mow there anymore. They get to free range and enjoy all the lovely grass, and that makes me so happy.

I am still working on getting the soil in my garden beds straight. I looked at a picture from last year, and my spinach was so gorgeous, and this year it is meh, and that is part of gardening. If it is perfect every single time, where is the learning and challenge? That is part of what I love.

I have been working with my worm castings. I now have a compost bin, and I am still clearing parts of the property so I can plant blackberries and my muscadine vine, and whatever other little happy things I come up with.

I am dying to get my vegetable plants out, but I am trying to wait a little longer. I have rushed before and regretted it, so I am trying to be patient.

My strawberries are looking wonderful, and I have planted two flower beds with perennials and herbs on my deck. I am looking forward to watching all of them develop.

I am working on making this into a little magical garden that feels like a happy, peaceful sanctuary.

I haven’t posted much about the farm lately, and I just wanted to say where I am.

It’s hard to express everything I’m feeling.

I want to say I’m strong, I’ve got this, and everything is going well. I want to say I’m choosing not to do the market simply because I don’t want too much on my plate. And that’s true.

But it’s also true that it feels almost impossible to step out into my yard, the place I want to call my garden. Somehow it doesn’t feel the same. The sounds aren’t the same. It doesn’t feel like my dream right now.

Cars go by. People talk. Kids scream. Motors rev. Sirens pass. It isn’t the quiet world I once knew.

And yet I don’t want to be limited by that. I want to move beyond it. I want to be more than this feeling. But I also want to be real. What’s true right now might not be true in an hour.

Some days I feel steady and good.
Other days I feel paralyzed and can’t make a decision.

This is a growing season in more ways than one. I haven’t looked for seeds. I haven’t planned a thing. Today is maybe my third day outside since November, and this used to be my favorite place.

I am not less strong.
I don’t love my chickens any less.
I don’t love the outdoors any less.

But I am finding it difficult to let my heart soar the way it used to. It’s hard to see the vision again.

I don’t know if this is a season to let it rest and figure it out later, or a season to gently push through and see what happens.

Today I’m grieving.
Tomorrow I may be thriving.
Maybe both can exist at the same time.

What I do know is this. It’s all going to be okay.

❄️ Snowy day here at Cluck-It Farm ❄️

Hoping this little blanket of snow is protecting the spinach 🌱
Gave the girls some straw to stand on — though I think they mostly just enjoyed scratching and pecking at it 🐔

And Trevor and I had a whole lot of fun playing in the snow.🥶⛄️🌨️

How much stuff does it take to finish one project? 🤷🏻‍♀️

First picture = drills, screws, straps, bags, and a whole lot of back-and-forth. How many trips to the shed🤦🏻‍♀️

Second picture = PVC hoops are finally up over my garden beds! 🙌

Next step → planting spinach tomorrow 🥬✨

Sometimes the middle is messy, but the end is worth it. 💪

🌱✨ Barnyard Backyard Update ✨🌱

I’ve made things a little more private back here — but if you’re walking by, be sure to knock on the fence, I’d love to say hi. 💛

I just finished filling the garden beds with layers of mulch, grass clippings, dirt, and mushroom compost. It feels like a happy little recipe for fall and spring planting. 🍂🌸

The firepit makes evenings so cozy, and this backyard barnyard is really starting to feel like home. 🔥

💭 What are you growing this fall?
Or what would you love to see from your local gardener?

🌱💜 The garden beds are finally getting filled, and it wouldn’t be possible without this amazing community. From cutting trees to planning the garden layout, from building coops and sheds to painting, and even just being a listening ear — so many hands and hearts have come together to make this farm possible. I am truly, deeply grateful. 🙏 Keep watching to see how we get these beds ready for planting — and remember, you can do this in your own backyard too! 🌱✨

Two fresh eggs today 🥚🥚 and a few strawberries planted 🍓.

Last week was a tough week. I get impatient when things stall, and waiting on other people’s timelines isn’t easy. But I’m reminding myself to slow down, be present, and take joy in the small steps forward. 💚

This is our only chick that made the move to the Oak Ridge farm, and we couldn’t love her more. Trevor named her Girl — and I added Hope because we’re hoping she really is a girl. 💛

She’s already learning how to be a “big chick,” following mama’s lead and learning to roost like she owns the place.

Sometimes it just takes one tiny feathered reminder that new beginnings can still be full of hope. 🌱🐥
