⚡️ Nariya here! A senior spice associate at the LA location of Oaktown Spice Shop. An actress, only child, foodie, and connoisseur of the finer things in life. My family migrated from Louisiana and Jamaica— both places known for their cuisine— and came together to raise me in a city known for having some of the best food in the world—Chicago, Illinois (I said what I said). So it was only right I’d end up working at the best spice shop in town! Working at Oaktown continues to grow my knowledge about global cuisines and cultures.
1. California Chaat Masala
This blend was my first love here. It started with a simple head of cauliflower and the funky, smoky, and savory flavors that this spice imbues on everything it touches. Traditionally used as topping on Indian street food, this spice has become my secret weapon to have my friends always wanting my place to be the meet-up before a night out or a night in. Asafoetida, Kala namak salt, and Persian lime are the heroes of this blend. It’s complex, unique, and simply mouthwatering, with a little heat—just like me ;)
Pro Tip: Mix with our honey powder for an incredible savory sweet popcorn topping.
2. Golden Milk
Coming from a Caribbean family, ginger has always been the cure for everything! Mix it with a little bit of turmeric and wooh—you have the fool proof potion for inflammation both in your body and mind. This Ayurvedic drink curbed my hot chocolate addiction while still providing me the warm cozy feeling in my tummy. It’s caffeine-free so I can drink it before bed to wind down or first thing in the morning to start my day grounded. If you like chai tea or warming spices you’ll love this!
Pro Tip: Mix your powder with a bit of coconut oil for a rich texture and better absorption.
