About our mural #3: Tzampetey shows us that coffee is political. Immigration has forever marked this community - over the last fifteen years, many former coffee producers and pickers have left Tzampetey to find more stable sources of income because coffee just wasn't meeting their needs.

Producing coffee is challenging, risky, and unpredictable in ways that coffee buying never will be - Tzampetey is a great example of that. This view grounds us in our commitment to build strong relationships with producers so that we can earn well and grow our businesses together.

About our mural #2: Tzampetey is home to one of our producer partners, Arturo Tuy Perez! During harvest, his small wet mill runs late into the night, depulping, fermenting, and washing ripe coffee cherries.

Arturo is a skilled negotiator and challenges us to truly value the investment of time & money that coffee demands. If you visit Guatemala with us, you can expect to leave Arturo's place with a brain full of coffee knowledge and, if you're lucky, a bag of ripe avocados 🥑

About our mural #1: Tzampetey reminds us of our beginnings. In the corner of the mural, you can see a smoky haze rising from another community - that's San Lucas Tolimán!

This is where Kapeh Utz's founder, Candace, was living and working when some coffee producer friends asked her if she would consider partnering with small farmers by importing their coffee to the US. Long before Kapeh Utz was born, Candace would go to the lookout at Tzampetey to reflect and relax after a long week🌳
