2019 was a fantastic vintage defined by bountiful early rains and a long, steadily warm summer. The season's long, mild finish provided ample hang time for our grapes, evoking wines of brilliant color, meticulous structure, and beautiful tannins. With impeccable fruit of immense quality, winemaker Andy Erickson has created the most highly regarded vintage of To Kalon Vineyard Company. With James Suckling awarding our 2019 H.W.C a 100-point score, critics agree that our terroir-driven wines are the purest expression of To Kalon Vineyard, one of the most storied and renowned vineyards in the world.

The founder of our famed To Kalon Vineyard was a true pioneer. Traveling west searching for gold in the mid-1800s, Hamilton Walker Crabb found his true calling after purchasing a 240-acre parcel of land at the northwest corner of Highway 29 and Walnut Lane in Oakville, California.

Originally naming his vineyard “Hermosa,” meaning beautiful in Spanish, he was inspired to change the vineyard name to “To Kalon,” meaning “Highest Beauty” in Greek, after seeing the unmatched bounty of fruit and remarkable quality produced from the vines planted on his land.

Becoming an ardent collector of grapevines, H.W. Crabb proudly planted 400 varietals, boasting a collection many considered to be the largest in the world.

After receiving numerous accolades in 1889, the Chicago Herald proclaimed him the “Wine King of the Pacific Slope.”

Today, To Kalon Vineyard Company proudly honors a legacy of winemaking excellence by producing terroir-drive wines that express the purest essence of this storied vineyard.

Deep in the heart of Napa Valley, H.W. Crabb planted a vast empire of vines in the 1860s. Eventually, it grew thick with grapes, orange trees, and Italian chestnuts. So rich was it with life and bounty that Crabb nobly bestowed upon the wine produced from the vineyard the Greek name "To Kalon," or "highest beauty."

Today, To Kalon Vineyard Company is dedicated to crafting unique expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon from this storied place.
