In 2012, winemaker Michael Silacci introduced the native yeast program at Opus One with a clear vision: isolate wild yeast from within each of our four Estate vineyards to ferment the juice of those same vines - deepening the connection between every bottle of Opus One and the land from which it comes. Today, Research Manager Alaina Velasquez and her team in the Opus One laboratory steward the program's continued evolution.

Opus One 2014 marked the first vintage where native yeast - sourced from across our Oakville Estate - was used in the fermentation of our final blend. Fourteen percent of the vintage was produced using three native yeast strains that, when integrated, brought layers of complexity and a deeper expression of place.

Opus One 2006 is remarkably elegant and structured, with a core of red and black currant fruit framed by cedar and savory notes. Composed of Cabernet Sauvignon 77%, Merlot 12%, Cabernet Franc 5%, Petit Verdot 3%, and Malbec 3%, Vintage 2006 is persistently smooth through an expansive finish.

Some things are worth experiencing again for the first time. The Courtyard Tasting Room has been thoughtfully refreshed - its renewed interiors drawing from the colors of the land and sky. Ambers and golds capture the warmth of the sun, soft blues capture the open sky, and rich browns ground the space. Together, they create a sensory connection between the tasting experience and the landscape beyond.
