Our FFA Advisors are very encouraging when it comes to students is Ag as well as Ag literacy and helping us to remain involved in our community. One of our biggest and favorite events is Food for America. Through Food for America Firelands FFA brings around 20-30 students to serve as either group leaders or station leaders. Food for America brings out tons of kids from surrounding elementary schools to the fair grounds and gives them the opportunity to learn about where their food comes from, how different animals can be helpful on the farm and how different equipment is used safely. As a station leader students will bring their animal or equipment to the fair grounds and prepare a 3-4 minute presentation on their topic, there is then typically time for a hands-on learning experience, time for kids to ask questions or even pet the animals. All the kids love it and have such a great time seeing the animals which encourages them to stay involved. The other way for students to serve is as a group leader. As a group leader the student will get 5-10 kids to take to each station and make sure everyone is where they are supposed to be, everything is running smoothly and everyone is paying attention. Overall this is a great way for individuals to be involved in Ag literacy within our community no matter how little or how much they know about agriculture. All together everyone has a great time and these opportunities would not be possible without our teacher
