It's pie season! We are selling our apple and pumpkin pies in partnership with Kor Farms today at Ocala downtown Market. We got the pies, they have all the incredible breads! As always our pies are egg, dairy and lard free. Start the fall off right and come on by!

These ladies get right down, is what I'm telling you. We're working on the bees' individual names from day to day.
We have bees! It's been part of the dream to have as many hives on site as our little farm can sustainably support, and thanks to Evan at Kor Farms, we got em! We've started out with 2, but are planting as many perennial flowers and trees as we can to give them a good home, and in the hopes of adding a couple more. They seem generally happy here- I did take a sting to the face but I had it coming, and it did this hot Botox thing around my nose so you won't hear me complaining. But by and large they seem pretty mellow, and it's a good thing, too, because the kids are all up in there. If you're interested in a conversation with a couple of novice beekeepers, bring the fam on by and meet our busy girls! We're growing out here!
Who knew elderberry flowers we're so beautiful?! We are about to get pounds and pounds of Elderberries here at Rainbow Rise. This tiny fruit is amazing for your immune system and can be made into an immune support syrup. Contact us if you'd like some- if you want them fresh you will need to be ready to pick and process or freeze them yourself the same day, they only last a short while off the plant. We will freeze them too if you prefer that.
How's this for some exciting news?! A bit over a month ago, Evan Komyati and his wife Rachel Ling, proprietors of Kor Farms, relocated their biz out here to Rainbow Rise with the hopes of expanding what they do, which is grow some of the fire-est produce you've ever clapped your mouth upon, in addition to baking some of the most delicious artisan breads this area has ever seen. So, we'll be two separate farms operating out of the same locale, and collaborating on a BUNCH of different projects, all of which we'll keep you fine folks informed about. Evan is as hardworking as they come, a skilled entrepreneur and frankly a better gardener than I am, so I'm real excited I get the opportunity to work with someone so knowledgeable. Our dream has always been to establish alliances with other local farm families, and this is a massive first step towards achieving that dream. (You can tell how pumped we are in the first photo- we've called it "Florida Gothic", circa 2021).

Well, we made it to the Big Time, our little farm has been featured on YouTube. Big thanks to Pete Kanares at Greendreams for this incredible video he put together, showcasing the spectacular effort he and his team put into installing Phase #2 of our Food Forest out here on the farm. We couldn't be more excited. We've got some other big news, and some other exciting projects rolling down the pipe- keep up with us on social media if you're ready to get your minds blown. Well, spring has sprung, things are growing, and so are we! A bit over a week ago, Pete Kanares of GreenDreams headed back on up this way for the second installation of the Food Forest we're working to establish out here on our little farm. We've doubled the area, and it is again richly planted with perennial flowers, plants that are beneficial to the soil and pollinating insects, and edible or medicinal trees and shrubs. We can't wait to see what it becomes! Come grow with us!
p.s.- a personal story: the Friday after the install was finished, we got a brief cold snap that damaged some of the smaller new plants, and I was in despair. I so desperately want this place to grow, you see- we have so many dreams planted out here. After a few nights tossing and turning, I was lucky enough to have a conversation with an old Florida farmer, who told me something to the effect of, we've all lost some darlings- those plants or trees or crops we were just so excited to see grow and come to fruit. Life is like that sometimes. We can't any of us give in to despair, growing a dream takes too much work. So we out here will mourn those plants we lost, alone, and plant more trees in their stead, and celebrate those with everyone. We will never lose sight of our forest, even though we may be sad over a few trees.

Well, however many months along, and the whole world is still adapting to our new reality in relation to COVID. It has certainly affected our plans for out here- but it has not changed our ideas, our vision, or our values. We are continuing to grow and are working to deepen our roots, both of our trees and with our community. To that end, we could use some help in the garden! We are looking to hire someone 1-2 days a week, maybe 6-8 hours a day, at $15 an hour. It's hard work, out in the sun and wind, but the place is certainly easy on the eyes, we listen to good music, and we'll do yoga every morning in the garden. Pay could also include a personal garden plot to plant your own vegetables, if that had any appeal. Send us a message by phone or via FB, and let's grow together!

Hi Everyone! Ryan has been working hard over here planting fruit and nut trees, keeping things growing and changing over the garden for the season. We will soon have many many pouds of sweet potatoes before the winter hits. We thought it would be fun to post our food forest in March 2020 and today so you can see how much growth there has been. We have corn! And what a variety. It's called Bloody Butcher, and it's as delicious as it is beautiful to behold. Supplies are limited, but we have a range of other produce available. Reach out to arrange for a share, or just stop by the garden and holler over the fence. We're growing out here!
