Do horses grieve loss? They absolutely do. Allie past away last week at 30 years old. I was concerned for Kathy and Carly our friends loss of Allie so we talked. Our horse Saturn and Allie have known each other for most of their lives. Same farm together, different owners competing only to join each other in retirement the first day we bought the farm. The They actually were the inspiration for a need we saw for us to know they would have a great life retiring after working so hard competing while taking care of the riders. Allie was a powerhouse but i remember waiting at one competion with Carly on Allie next to me and she rested her head on my shoulder to the shock of most around us
While I thought about the people I forgot about our guys Porter, my rescue retire, and Saturn. Yesterday driving the cart I glanced over only to see Saturn look up and over to me with eyes tearing. Porter, my rescue, looked over to me and Saturn puttin his head on Porter for support and then they all walked over. It all just hit me and how could I have forgotten them.
I cried and they comforted me all sharing in the loss. Just a reminder that love and feelings, maybe even deeper feelings are universal but I would submit more so in our equine family. 😢❤️😢.
