Transparency is our bedrock.
Since the beginning of Alma Fria, we’ve taken a deliberately low-intervention approach to winemaking. Organically grown grapes. Indigenous yeasts. Naturally occurring malolactic bacteria. The minimum effective SO₂—and nothing else. No shortcuts, no additives, no sleight of hand.
These choices easily meet (and often exceed) organic, biodynamic, natural, and even vegan winemaking standards—but we don’t do it for labels or certifications. We do it because it aligns with our values, and because it makes better wine. You’ve heard this story before, and it’s one we’re proud to keep telling.
What’s new is how we’re sharing it.
In 2023, the European Union took a long-overdue step toward transparency, requiring wine producers to disclose full ingredient lists and nutritional information—either directly on the label or via QR code. Wine has lived without this standard for far too long, and we’re thrilled to see that change.
Transparency—in winemaking and in life—is foundational for us. So beginning with the 2024 vintage, we are voluntarily adopting the EU’s labeling guidelines. Each bottle now includes a QR code linking to a detailed page outlining the wine’s complete ingredient list, every action taken in the cellar, and the farming practices of the vineyard from which it came.
Why voluntarily embrace more regulation? Because we respect our customers, our planet, and ourselves—and because earning trust through transparency is central to who we are. The TTB currently permits more than 70 additives and processing aids in winemaking. Wines that rely on them are the vinous equivalent of highly processed food. Wines that don’t—like ours—are more akin to vegetables grown in your garden, nourished by sunlight, soil, and water alone.
Alongside the 2024 Richardson Ranch Pinot Noir, this spring release also includes the 2024 Joyce Vineyard Chardonnay and 2024 Stolo Vineyard Syrah. Production is very limited—approximately 30-70 cases each of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—and they will sell out quickly.
