Today marks the last day that Howard Station Cafe is my family’s business.
Started by my Grandma and my Uncle Joey in 1982 and then My mom and dad decided to take it over after the sudden passing of my uncle.
This restaurant has played a huge part of my life. I remember being taken out of school at lunch time to eat my great grandmother’s stewed chicken and polenta. My whole family would be there at the family table.
When my parents decided to take over, I was in LA, looking for apartments to start my next chapter. My father begged me to help them and manage the restaurant for a few years. I decided to take his offer, and well I am still here in Occidental.
I stated as a busier, then juicer, then waitress and finally managed. Andzia and I helped again when it was time to reopen during the pandemic before we opened our own restaurant. This business is hard. The industry is struggling. Luckily the new owner will not be making any changes and will keep the Howard’s torch burning. Thank you for the hundreds of people who frequent Howards each week and Please continue to support your local restaurants! Mom, I’ve been with you through all of the ups and downs and I’m so proud of you. You now get to live out your golden years on the pickle ball court and hopefully watching me kids 😆! Today is bittersweet, so long Howard’s!
