Perennial Spotlight! Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) is an attractive woody vining plant with showy clusters of 2” long, crimson tubular flowers. It’s quite vigorous, growing from 10-20’ tall and is easily trained on a trellis, arbor or fence, but can also sprawl as a ground cover. The plant blooms heavily in late spring then sporadically until fall. The flowers of this native honeysuckle attract hummingbirds, bees and butterflies to the garden throughout the summer. Flowers are followed by bright red fruit, attractive to birds. Coral honeysuckle prefers average, well-drained, soil in full sun to part shade, but flowers best in full sun. Available today at our self-serve farm stand.

Perennial Spotlight! Joe Pye w**d (Eupatorium fistulosum) is a robust, upright perennial with hollow purple stems accented by huge, rounded, tight clusters of pink or purplish-mauve flowers. It’s an important pollen and nectar plant and attracts butterflies (particularly the swallowtail butterfly) and other pollinators by the dozens. Plants can vary widely in size and height, ranging anywhere from 5’-8’. Joe Pye w**d blooms in July and August with flowers maturing to a buff-colored seedhead that persists into the winter. Its height makes it an excellent background plant in border perennial beds, but is also majestic standing alone. In the garden, the plant may need support. Plants may also be pinched in early summer to decrease the overall height of the plant and encourage smaller and a greater number of blooms. This beauty does best when planted in moist soil in full to part sun. Cut back after winter's end. Hollow stems are good solitary bee nesting material - if possible, leave 6-18" of stem up for nesting bees. Available today at our self-serve farm stand.

Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia rotundifolia ‘Torch’) - This traditional version produces daisy-like vibrant orange flowers that provide nectar and habitat for butterflies and bees. A relative of zinnias and sunflowers, this striking plant resembles both and blooms mid-summer until the first hard freeze. It has multiple uses for both garden beds and for cutting. Torch is a quick and easy grower that thrives in full sun and heat. At heights of up to 72 inches tall, grow this showy annual in the back of borders or in mass plantings. Available today at our self-serve farm stand.
