We have a phenomenal set of bull calves in this years crop! Weaning time for our herd is approaching and some of these big boys are really standing out. Pictured is Otto Highrise 605 #21638977, sired by Stellpflug Hoffman RiseAbove. He is the only Angus Bull in the entire breed with his elite and relevant combination of calving ease(+13), growth(+100WW) and maternal value(+125$M). His maternal value is backed by FOUR Pathfinder cows in his pedigree including his SEVENTH generation Pathfinder granddam Prim Lassie of Ellston Z96! His own dam has a great start at earning Pathfinder status as well and becoming the 8th generation to do so. We recently had a few people ask about our cut pricing. I have included it here and pinned it to our fb page for easy reference. It is also on our website www.ottocattleco.com. Our individual beef cuts are only available at our farm near May City. Give a shoutout to either of us and we will be sure someone is around to help you or with a little notice we can DELIVER to your doorstep! We are a working farm which means we are basically always around, or nearby and open most days/hours 👩‍🌾😀

Update on our cover crop seedlings The wet, damp, and cool weather recently may have grain farmers getting a bit antsy to get in the field but the conditions have been perfect for getting our fall seeded cover crops established! These will all be grazed this fall yet and the rye will be harvested as ryelage next spring. We have a cover crop seeded on nearly 1/2 of our tillable acres this year.

Yesterday Sara and I were able to attend the Mohnen 40th Anniversary female sale near White Lake SD. We were fortunate to be able to add one of the legendary cow families in the Angus breed to our herd, a Mohnen Jilt! Our selection was Mohnen Jilt 2423, the best daughter to date of Pathfinder dam Jilt 2039. She already records 2 calves weaned at a 106 ratio and is bred is the impressive Mohnen Ambassador bull.

Yesterday we completed a neat project that we are trying this year for the first time. We spread about 30 pounds an acre by drone of a grazing cover crop seed blend on 185 acres of unharvested soybeans. We are hoping to accomplish several things by doing this.
1 provide some fall grazing for our cow herd
2 reduce wind and water erosion on this farm
3 increase organic matter of the soil on this farm
4 reduce run off into the Little Sioux River which runs thru this farm for nearly one mile

We also supported two other local businesses and thank them for their help! 300 Acres(seed) and Nextgen Aerial Ag(application)
