I realized we hadn’t posted in a while so I thought I’d give a quick update on farm life lately! Cows and calves are finally all on pasture so the focus lately has been making feed for winter. Of course hay and oats like normal for us but this year we are trying something new with sorghum sudan grass wrapped bales. I took a quick video of the process as they were just getting started. The bales smell really sweet, hopefully the girls will think they’re cow candy when they’re ready to feed.

Last weekend we started moving pairs to pasture. It’s a lot of work but so rewarding to see them enjoying the grass. We are a little over half done with roughly 5 more loads to move yet, but decided to wait until the hot spell is over to finish.

We were honored to host Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig at our farm today. We had some great discussions about the cattle industry in Iowa, as well as our freezer beef sales and the Choose Iowa program, which we are proud members of. Thank you Secretary Naig! Your visit sent our May Beef month out with a BANG!!
