Heather and Tony have been married 28 years with two adult kids and two grandchildren. Spending their whole careers in public service, Tony is a disabled veteran and has spent 5 years in the U.S Army before having to leave due to knee injuries, following with a short stint as an aircraft inspector. After that, he served as a law enforcement officer for 25 years in which he will retire
from in 2024 to spend full time working on the family farm. Heather has spent the last 23 years in the medical field, starting as a file clerk in a doctors office and continued her education to become a Registered Nurse. After deciding to continue her education once more, she received her masters degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham, where she became a board registered Nurse Practitioner, all while raising two wonderful children. Heather now practices as a Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner while also working alongside Tony Champion on the farm. After they had raised their children, they decided to dive into the farm life and purchase a property consisting of approximatley 7 acres in 2021. From there, in 2022, they had the opportunity to buy the adjacent land to the property and that's where their journey began! The farm consists of a small herd of mini Herefords, 1 registered bull, 2 registered cows, and 5 unregistered cows. It also contains a small herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats, a small flock of turkeys, and 20 laying hens (chickens). This year, 2023, they have had 3 calves and hatched approximately 10 Turkey chicks. Next year with some luck, they hope to have 6 calves, breed 4 goats, and hatch out 10 to 12 Turkeys.

"Our goal started as a 'hobby' farm to show our grandkids that food doesn't just come from a store, that someone has to grow and process it. We also wanted to produce quality and healthy meat and food for our family, rather than just buying from a local store. Now we have redirected and are moving towards breeding and selling mini Herefords, turkeys, and Nigerian dwarf goats. We also aim to educate people on different breeds for small farms. So far, this has been quite the adventure and have learned there's a lot of good to owning a farm, but not without making a few expensive mistakes first! All in all however we have grown to find this experience rewarding and life changing. We want to thank my wife and I's families, along with the Benton family, because without all of you we would have not been able to make it this far."
