Sheep shearing. The final chapter of spring. This year it took two days to shear all of our sheep. It's loud and hot and wet with lanolin, but all the ewes are happy when they get their winter coats offs. And it couldn't have come at a better time since it was already in the 80's this week.

The shearer trims their hooves and shears the sheep, it only takes him about five minutes when all goes smoothly. They bounce right up afterwards and find the nearest thing to scratch their backs on.

After the fleece comes off we skirt the fleece - pick out all of the bits of hay, burdock, or felted bits. We sort the fleeces by color and then their next stop will be off to the fiber mill!

Everyone loves our wool blankets!

The mill has said we have the nicest quality and most uniform fleeces they've seen.

The weaver said this is the most beautiful design she has done in years.

Our friends, a newly married couple, say they curl up in their wool blanket each night.

Our kids want them on their beds 🤍

This year's blankets are the softest and heaviest we've ever had. (4 ounces heavier)

I have to think it's the care we put in each step on the way.

Because this is a real farm product with minimal processing, you'll still find bits of hay or grass in the blankets. Not much, usually very small, but think of it as...a certificate of authenticity!

You'll love them to, it will be your favorite blanket that all generations will love.

Order it today and I'll get in the mail for you in time for Mother's Day!

As lambing season wraps up and the lambs are really figuring out having legs is incredible...now starts another favorite time of year...LAMB RACES!

After we feed the mama ewes their hay they're distracted and the baby lambs start this up and they all join in! Rushing from one area of the barn as fast as they can, turning around, and running back the other way at top speeds.

It's a joy to watch, they're clearly having a blast.

Once in awhile a new mom or a "helicopter mom" can't stand her baby being away and will baa like crazy (you can hear one in the video) and run after her lamb on they stampede...which is also hilarious.

So enjoy today's edition of lamb races!

Bottle feeding these two sweeties while their mom battles a case of mastitis. (The white one is nibbling on my finger because he can't wait his turn.) We're keeping them with their mom who is still caring for them and as soon as this clear they could be able to nurse off her again.

We've got 67 lambs so far. 4 ewes left to go. Females are in the lead.

This has been the toughest lambing season we've ever had and are very ready to wrap it up. Issues we've never experienced before that kept us in the barn extra hours and lambs in the house at night. Many recovered, several did not.

Here's a bunch of the cuties doing well. We've got a great mix of colors and patterns. That has been the best part of this season.

We are now taking deposits for whole lambs which will be ready in the coming weeks.

As you already know, our lamb is 100% grass-fed, and rotationally grazed through our lush organic pastures during the growing season.

We have Shetland lambs, which are mild flavored and easy to cook with. When you buy a lamb, you can expect around 30 pounds of meat (plus or minus a few pounds). And you’ll pick the lamb up directly from us at our farm.

When the time comes, we’ll remind you to call the butcher about which cuts you’d like (anything from ground to bratwurst to roasts to rack of lamb). We’re also always happy to offer suggestions about which cuts are best from our lambs.
