Native Prairie Beef Genetics

Native Prairie Beef Genetics “Superior Angus and Balancer genetics
built from the ground up.”
Maternal excellence. Structural correctness. Proven performance.

Located in Ogallah, KS, Native Prairie Beef Genetics is solely family owned and operated by the Nilhas Family: Tyrel, Breanne, Adalyn, Aubree, Addisyn, and Ainsley. We are a 3rd generation operation started in the 1950s by my grandfather, who set a strong foundation for our commercial herd by being progressive and well ahead of his time. Today we take pride in raising angus and balancer cattle tha

t are powerful, proven, and profitable from the ground up. We have recently branched out into balancers with the hopes of producing cattle that will boost our customers in the commercial industry. Our commercial and registered herd are run side by side with the same principles, expectation and standards. With that being said, we can honestly say that they are raised in a true commercial setting. I started my herd in 2003 and over the years we have brought in top donors and sires with profitability, efficiency, and maternal power at the forefront of our breeding decisions. Today my father still runs a large single person operation of grain and forage production and an elite commercial cow herd that our program as been built around. Along with a small grain farming operation, custom farming venture, and commercial/registered cow herd, I am also a lineman. This definitely has its fair share of challenges, but one really great thing about it is the cows are built to work as hard as we do. Our cattle are never pampered while expected to perform with no exceptions. We are excited about the road we are headed on with our program.

Gelbvieh females add an average maternal weaning weight advantage of 22.7 pounds per calf. In today’s market, this increased weaning weight has a significant impact on the producer’s bottom line.

At a market price of $4.50 per pound on five-weight steers with a 22.7 pound weaning weight advantage, Gelbvieh females would equate an additional $102.15 in revenue per calf.
