Reserve your Thanksgiving turkey raised by our son Cooper!

This is Cooper's 2nd year raising turkeys. Cooper is responsible for most of the chores. We do help him with moves on pasture. And Cooper receives all of the profit for his hard work raising these birds.

Cooper likes poultry more then the other animals on the farm. We wanted to encourage him to grow his own enterprise on the farm and we hadn't raised turkeys for several years. Cooper has found he really likes the turkeys too! They come running when they see him come out for chores. They will vocalize their excitement and follow him around.

Our turkeys are fed a high quality, nutrient dense transitional organic and no soy feed on pasture. Well worth the cost and hard to find a no soy fed turkey!

Pigs on pasture, with a healthy respect for electric fence. Equates to farmer who doesn't worry, (as much) about escapes.

It also helps us manage the damage to the area. We don't always want it tilled to dirt. Easy to move them around in our woods with one polywire.

We do weeks of fence training before we ever move them out to the back forty. It works for us.

Cooper's turkeys have arrived!

This will be Cooper's second year raising turkeys on pasture here at the farm. He does mostly all of the work to take care of these animals, and when they move out of the brooder onto pasture, he will be doing all those chores as well. He also receives all of the profit from this farm enterprise.

Important read, if you want "Pasture Raised" to actually mean pasture raised when it's on the label for Eggs. We have already submitted our comment.

🥚 Why does ‘Pasture-Raised’ on your egg carton matter? Because right now, it can mean very different things depending on who’s using the term.

The American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA) submitted a petition to the FDA calling for clear, consistent standards for ‘pasture-raised’ eggs—aligning them with the existing USDA definition already used for poultry. This would ensure hens actually spend significant time on real, rooted vegetated pasture, just like consumers expect when they pay a premium.

We encouraged all stakeholders—including major brands—to submit public comments. Yet companies like Vital Farms, Handsome Brook Farms, and Pete & Jerry’s (leaders in the pasture-raised egg space) chose not to make a public comment.

Silence speaks volumes. If these brands truly stand behind meaningful pasture access and transparency for consumers, why stay quiet on a petition that protects the integrity of the very claim they use on their packaging?

True pasture-raised farming is about hens foraging on fresh pasture daily—not stationary barns with limited door access. Consumers deserve honesty on labels, and small family farms doing it right deserve a level playing field.

We have 2 batches of chicken in the freezer so far this year! 3 more to go.

Pasture Raised, moved everyday onto fresh forage, fed a no soy transitional organic feed, right here in East Central MN.

A nice rainbow at sunset last night. We were on our way out to load broilers for processing.

This is our North field where we have our Egg Train with laying hens. Also, prime owl hunting ground. This has been our worst year yet loosing hens to the owls nightly.

I always enjoy seeing the monarch catipillars in our fields. I've been keeping my eye out for them, and these were the first ones I've seen this year. They are close to making their chrysalis, as they are quite big! I hadn't checked this field, where our laying hens had gone through at the start of the season. It's easier to see them at this size. I found 9 this day!
