The first LEAF Open Market of the season was a huge success! The good people of Erie cleaned me out of honey… several hundred pounds worth!!

I’ll be bringing even more inventory for the next one, June 27th from 10-2 in Frontier Park. And stay tuned for an upcoming LEAF Hive update!

Now it’s time to take the bike for a spin on Presque Isle 🚲🐝

Today 44 more nucleus colonies (nucs) were picked up by beekeepers!! Some were seasoned beekeepers, while others are just beginning their adventure.

I always enjoy the conversations I have with the folks, who are often a little nervous but very excited.

Also yes I had myself a little photoshoot with the nucs, because it was the culmination of a lot of hard work. And sometimes you just gotta let loose and get silly right? 🤣🐝

Happy World Bee Day 🐝

I was just thinking the other day, because of honey bees I have traveled places I more than likely would have never gone. From the most random back roads of PA, to the mountains of Georgia and Vermont.

I don’t know where or who I’d be without my bees 💛🐝

A bear 🐻 got into one of my apiaries and wiped out 4 colonies.

Financially it hurts a little bit. But more than that, it’s tens of thousands of bee lives lost. I’m not mad at the bear though, it’s just doing what bears do.

The perpetrator also added insult to injury by leaving me a present - the largest pile of s**t I’ve ever seen right in the middle of the crime scene 🤣

Beekeeping isn’t always sunshine and honey. Occasionally it’s chaos, destruction, and bear p**p. But all you can do sometimes is just try to find a little humor in it all 🐝

I’m excited to share that in partnership with LEAF - Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park, the LEAF Hive has been established at Ernst Conservation Seeds!! 🌱

This colony will spend the summer turning flowers into honey, while I stand nearby pretending to be in charge.

May Mart this past weekend was a blast, despite getting snowed on 🙂
