Busy Busy Busy is all that I can say that we have been. Winter piglets sold quickly and we are awaiting our May litters. Many are already spoken for. Cows have kept us on our toes and on the go.
House cleaning: I have received many comments and messages about my genetics not being IPP breed standard as their snouts are too short or the pigs are too big. The ORIGINAL IPP was bred to be short to medium snout and a true mid sized pig that grew out in 7-9 months that has consistency in litters. Research Shelly Dixon and the IPP. Pretty dang sure in the book Raising Pigs on Pasture it states snouts should be short to mid sized.
Some of my COIs might be higher than Registry desires but you know what, I have consistent breed quality piglets. It can be achieved by selecting the best of genetics for your program contrary to current posts.
The new standard is a smaller slower growing pig with a medium sized snout that has no consistency in their litters. This might work back East but in the PNW we have to have a larger faster growing hog due to our overhead costs and customer needs.
I’ll probably get censored and dinged for this post, but oh well. Most of my comments on the Registry page do. I’ll just keep breeding my IPPs and making quality pork for my customers.
