“All of us at the South Florida Water Management District are saddened by the passing of former Governing Board Chairman Sonny Williamson. He served for eight years on the governing board including two as Chairman. He brought practical wisdom, steady leadership, and a deep respect for balancing environmental stewardship with the needs of Florida’s working lands. We are honored to have known Sonny, to have worked with him, and to have called him a friend. Last night our family received this flag that was flown over the Florida State Capitol in honor of my grandfather, Frank “Sonny” Wesley Williamson, Jr.

It was presented by Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson at the Florida Cattlemen’s Association fundraiser.

Our family is so honored by this beautiful statement from the Economic Council of Okeechobee in memory of Frank “Sonny” Williamson Jr.

He believed in this community. He believed in agriculture. He believed in bringing people together for the long-term good of Okeechobee.

His legacy lives on in the land, the businesses, and the people he poured into.

Thank you to the Economic Council for recognizing the impact of a life so well lived.
