Herb of the day
Hibiscus
One of my favorites! So delicious and beneficial on its own, better when blended with other healing herbs.
Although technically a shrub not an herb, its bountiful benefits are a blessing to the herbal world.
Hibiscus offers powerful health benefits, most notably lowering blood pressure, fighting cell damage with rich antioxidants, and supporting weight management.
Lowers Blood Pressure: Drinking hibiscus tea can help reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure by relaxing and widening blood vessels.
Rich in Antioxidants: It is packed with vitamin C, beta-carotene, and anthocyanins that neutralize harmful free radicals and reduce inflammation.
Improves Cholesterol: Regular consumption may help lower bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while supporting good HDL cholesterol.
Aids Weight Management: Being naturally calorie-free and capable of helping curb appetite or block certain carbohydrate-breaking enzymes, it supports healthy metabolism.
Supports Liver Health: Plant extracts in hibiscus may help protect liver cells from damage and improve overall liver function.
When it comes to hibiscus not all are the same. For example: Rose of Sharon is a type of hibiscus, but not a all hibiscus are Rose of Sharon.
Hibiscus sabdariffa( red roselle) is the most potent and commonly used.
The calyx( the flower bud after its bloomed) is the part most used for herbal remedies.
