I became a homebrewer in August of 2010 when my awesome wife bought me the start up kit from The Brew Shop in Oklahoma City. By January 2011 I was all grain brewing, and after a year and a half I took over an entire room of our 3 bedroom house. Now I have relinquished the bedroom and expanded into a dedicated workshop and part of the basement! To be fair, I think she does enjoy the quality control aspect at least, not to mention brews mean beer on her own.
