The other two wines are intended for earlier drinking, though the 100 per cent Nebbiolo, Pio Decimo, could be bottle aged. Pio Decimo is named after the visiting cardinal who visited the Sanctuary of Boca in 1900. On his visit, on tasting the local wine, he declared that the wine of Boca was so good that it was not merely a wine for cardinals but a wine for popes. As it turned out, he was elected Pope Pio X in 1903.
