A week ago our Timber Rattlesnake made several surprise appearances and tonight I nearly stepped on this guy on my way to do night checks. I love snakes and this Copperhead was an absolute beauty but I don't know what's in the air lately and I really wish that air would take itself back into the woods for my sake of peace of mind.

Our resident Timber Rattlesnake made another appearance the other day. This absolutely stunning female has been around for years and she usually honors us with a glimpse of her once or twice a year.

Fun fact about Timber Rattlesnakes; females don't hit sexual maturity until they're 6-11 years old and only have litters every 3-5 years consisting of 4-10 offspring. This slow maturation rate along with low reproduction output is another reason why protecting and conserving this species is so vital.

We have two more bronze based Muscovy nests who decided to hatch during the past 2 days of thunderstorms. The first photo should be a roughly 50/50 split of solid bronze ripple and patina ripple and the second photo is 100% solid patina.

We have plenty of grow outs (both Muscovy and Ancona) who are finally looking decent so stay tuned for more photos! Especially as the weather starts to cool off and everyone is no longer miserable in the daytime heat.
