Meet the family behind the farm!
We are Nate and Brittany Jones, and have 4 chaotic children! If you’ve known us at all over the years, you most likely heard our crazy stories at least once about how we were going to buy a farm, raise our kids in the dirt, and move my dad in with us. Most people thought we were kidding, and always asked us why we spoke with certainty.
We spent 3 years looking for the perfect place. I’d take the long way to work multiple times a week just to pass cows and remind myself why I needed that job. We put an offer in on a farm and lost out, and I cried for about a good solid year over it. Turns out, our (future) farm was active on the market nearly the whole time, and I just refused to see it because it was over budget. (And you know how accountants feel about budgets).
Then my dad nearly died 6 times in a row. So a week later when he called me at 10pm at night and said “we need to go to see this farm”… of course we went.
Life is short, so we took a chance and offered the best we could to the sweetest old lady. She accepted and we closed with $2 in our bank accounts, 24 chicks already in hand, and no idea how we were going to make all of this work.
And somehow, all of that landed us here: having anywhere from 30-75 chickens at a time (depending on how many I manage to sneak past my husband 🤫), ducks and turkeys that break the rules, and kids that are borderline…. feral. Oh, and sometimes we throw seeds in the ground and hope something grows.
It’s not keeping up with the Joneses around here; it’s keeping up with the chaos! Enjoy our antics, seeing what animals we come home with next, and maybe buy some eggs so Nate doesn’t say I need less chickens. 😉
