Fall is here, and that means it's time for farm tours!

Start your day at Doe Bay, open 9 to 3 Saturday and Sunday, to learn about our seed-to-table program, wander our garden and newly-planted orchard, and soak in the views.

We will have hot coffee, produce for sale, and rumor has it Bev is baking up some sweet treats!

Months of planning and teamwork led to an exciting day at Doe Bay on this sunny afternoon: our deer fencing is complete, and the first of our new orchard trees are finally in the ground!

This new space will expand our food production as well as offer a beautiful sanctuary for our guests and neighbors. Our new orchard will be packed full of dwarf and semi-dwarf fruit trees, berries of all kinds, and will be the new home for many of our perrenial and medicinal herbs.

We have many, many more plants to get in the soil, paths to build and woodchips to haul, but what a joy it is to see the vision finally taking shape.

While it's still too soon to count out that "third winter," these milder days and nights are working their magic all around the island.

Our winter greens are eagerly growing again, the garlic is filling in, and our to-do lists are getting longer faster than the daylight hours.

It's hard to believe seeding starts next week in our greenhouse! What are you most excited to grow this year?

Check out these cuties!

One of our winter projects in the Doe Bay Garden is developing a mushroom propagation program capable of meeting the weekly needs of the Doe Bay Cafe.

There is still (and always) so much to be learned and improved upon, but what a joy it was to see the first of our oyster mushroom buckets bursting with life.

Also pictured: fresh winter salad from our greenhouse on the menu this week, and the first of our purple sprouting broccoli peeking out.

A huge thank-you to everyone who participated in this year's farm tours!

Even out in east-est Orcas, we spent two dreamy, sun-filled afternoons welcoming over 150 guests and neighbors to the Doe Bay Garden.

There is so much community and connection to be found in growing and enjoying food together. This weekend was a beautiful reminder of just how special this little island is, and how lucky we are to share it.
