We have a little surprise! Say farewell to summer with a beautiful bunch of our single stem sunflowers.

60 days ago in the heat of June our littlest flower farmer planted some seeds and now she’s seeing the blooms of her labor.

10 stems = $20

Seed starting in the middle of summer? Yes! Start your seeds now for fall planting. In the fall in our zone we start several cool hardy annuals. These seedlings will get planted late September or early October and over winter, then when spring comes they will grow and produce late spring blooms.

Don’t want to start seeds? Some years we don’t either, those years we order plugs from a plug broker. These orders have to be placed NOW.

In our zone we plant:

Rudbeckia
Nigella
Orlaya
Bachelor Buttons
Campanula
Larkspur
Feverfew
Sweet William
Certain varieties of Snapdragons
Burplerum
Poppies

For us, most of these things can survive the winter without being covered. As a large flower farm covering can be tedious. We may cover some this fall since we are planting smaller quantities of each crop.

It’s always important to buy your seeds from a trusted source, buy varieties bred for cut flowers, and follow the directions on the seed packet for seed starting.
