Where the 20,000 insects ended up is known, thanks to Twitter, but where they originated from before invading a hot dog cart in Manhattan remains a mystery, and a blame game.

Swarm PSA: Many of us have been trained to see honeybee swarms as aggressive, but they are actually quite gentle. Here's some footage from last week of Kellie guiding a swarm into a box. Note that she is doing this bare-handed. She didn't get stung once. This is not to say we recommend trying this at home ;) , but do know that the bees aren't looking for a fight.

For a long time I've wanted to tell you all about the tree trunk hives Kellie keeps in our yard--salvaged homes from trees that needed to be cut down. They are very cool. This blog post explains, and has pictures.

My partner Kellie keeps bees—a lot of them. Actually, she does more than keep them. She catches swarms, she cuts colonies out of walls and re-homes them into hives, and sometimes, when she gets a call about some honeybees living in a tree that the owner wants to cut down, Kellie drives on over with a chain saw, and comes home with four feet of the trunk—a ready-made beehive complete with a well-established colony. It was a busy day here at Working Girls HQ (home). Just as yesterday's swarm moved into the empty tree-stump hive (photo 1), another colony swarmed and clustered in the crab apple tree (photo 2).

A semitruck rolled Friday morning, spilling a load of bees worth $92,000 on Interstate 5 at the Interstate 405 interchange near Lynnwood.
