The Foehn Effect. Also spelled Föhn, this is a hot, dry wind that affects many wine regions. When moist air is pushed towards a mountain, it cools and releases its moisture as rain as it moves up the front, windward side. On the other side (the leeward side), the moisture-less wind warms as it descends, creating hot, dry winds. Beneficial to vineyards for preventing the growth of mold and fungus.

The Wines by the Valley Summer Sippers event was fantastic! Lisa and her team shared five delicious wines, perfect for the summer heat!

The chapter favorite for brunch (or anytime) was the Idylle Pamplemousse Rosé Fizz. It has a slightly sweet, easygoing grapefruit flavor. Forgot juice for your mimosa? No problem, just pop this open and enjoy!

The next favorite was the Gateway Vinho Verde. A low in alcohol traditional style, it has a slight fizz and is so fresh tasting! I'm looking forward to turning it into a spritzer with some soda water and lime! It was paired with the Shrimp Couscous Salad from and it was perfect! I will be picking some up for dinner tonight!

The third-place winner was the Jacques Bourguignon Pinot Noir. This Vin de France is a light to medium-bodied wine that was served slightly chilled and paired with some crostini and creamy brie, just lovely!
