So this was an intriguing little game of FAAFO ... normally I don't use pre-spiced anything, but these little pre-cooked shrimpy things came with some kind of BBQ spice blend. Needed help, obviously, and the chili oil gave it a kick. Lil cilantro, lil chili-lime blend ... heat it up, put the cheese in the bottom of the hot-dog buns, drop the shrimpies on top, sq**rt it with the seafood sauce.

Not bad. Might do it again. Turned out better than the visual, anyway.

Yes, it's Friday.

Yes, there's a really good Fusion option (Malai meatballs with basmati rice).

No, I didn't get it. For some unknown reason, the Chicken Manchurian called my name today, and my order was freshy-fresh right outta the pan. Stayed hot all the way home, and as for hot-spicy, that too. Maybe a midpoint 5/10 on my personal spice scale, so if you CAN'T do spicy, better get the Malai meatballs. The Manchurian chicken chunks are bite-size and really tender, and if you've got someone at home willing to make some rice while you're out picking this up, I highly recommend asking them nicely to do such a thing. I should've made some, but I was too hungry and it smelled too good all the way home ... oh well.

P.S. There were a couple rookie customers in there while I was waiting. Almost $90 later, they're well on their way to indoctrinating the whole family ... the next generation of CiaH lovers.

Jumbo shrimps and curry fries,
Your eyes, this pic won't tantalize.
The size? To say "shrimp" is a lie ...
Go get them now before time flies.

The smell though, lingers in your nose,
Who knows? On days when no wind blows
Shrimp-fry-scent grows and goes and so ...
Go get them now, I must propose.

I used to have mad condimentia ...
I lived on ketchup, yeah you betcha.
For these, no dips here need be mentioned ...
Go get them now, you dinner-fetcher.

It's (Comfort Food) + (Little Things) day today, and these Malai meatballs are perfect. Mild, almost sweetly spiced white sauce ... plenty of saffron-infused basmati under it ... and a plethorithical amount of beef/chicken balls of meat on top. One of my favorites. And the naan is for wiping out the bottom of the bowl afterwards.

I almost forgot it was Friday, as I've taken off work this week. Figured I'd call it a later lunch today.

Now for the little things.

One, please tell me who the top-right meatball looks like. My phone kept framing it as a face, do I want to tag this person, blah blah blah. I can't see it ...

Two, remember a couple months ago when I called into question the ... structural integrity, shall we say, of the plasticware? Not to complain; I don't care as long as it doesn't break between the bowl and my mouth. Well, they've upgraded the plasticware. This stuff could actually do some damage if someone were to try to rob a meatball off your plate and you had to act in self-food-defense.

Three, they've moved the to the top of the menu online. No more scrolling till whenever IF IF IF this is your priority. Very minor thing, but a convenience.

Now be off with you. Stop licking the screen. Tastes weird. Go get it.

Tonight's glorious episode of FAAFO (Mess Around And Find Out for those with more of a filter than me) is brought to you by the number 3. 3 ingredients I've never used, much less together, but I know I like. Denoted by * in the pic descriptions.

1) Cubed boneless country-style pork ribs, in olive oil, seasoned with: Himalayan Pink Salt, Sesame Ginger Garlic blend, sumac, amchar* (that's right, I finally picked up my powdered mango), and a pinch (A PINCH ONLY) of saffron*.

2) Added snow peas, green onions, Baby Bella mushrooms, and a few sprinkles of the above spices (not more saffron).

3) Added soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, honey, Mango Scotch Bonnet hot sauce, and Tamarind-Date chutney*.

4) There's a tiny splash of rose water in the basmati.

5) Final.

6) Cooking music.

(Might be better with only 2/3 of a pinch of saffron. It's not bad, but definitely noticeable.)

I don't know why I do this to myself. Or maybe I do.

Maybe because there are people who message me "Welcome Home" when I land in India.

Maybe because the chai is the best I've had in this country.

Maybe because the samosa chaat wrap is so underrated and yet so utterly utterly perfect that it reminds me of my street-food tour in Jaipur.

Maybe because I never used to like mint chutney until CiaH, and didn't know how effing amazing tamarind chutney was until the same.

Maybe because this ... this ... "just food" got me all up in my feels and looking through the "Previous Trips" section on booking dot com and knowing exactly what parts of what songs and what films do the same.

Maybe because a food-flavor-taste review isn't enough some nights.

Don't mind me. Go get some food. You'll love it.

Vegans, not gonna lie, I feel bad for you. Well ... not really. Hear me out. It might make sense.

This Gobi Manchurian feels wildly unfair. I, as an omnivore, can eat and enjoy this battered cauliflower just as well as any vegan. With the rice. And the peppers. And (I'm like 97% sure ... too busy eating to pay attention) the onions. And the mildly spicy hella-good sauce. But you vegans can't totally enjoy omnivore food of the meatish variety without little guilt feelings creeping in. Maybe. Idk. I'm an omnivore.

Or maybe y'all vegans are just a wee bit more sharing than omnivores. But in any case, thank you for the Gobi Manchurian.

Now go be Manchurian. All of you -vores or whatever you are. Nom nom nom. And thank a vegan.

Okay y'all please pardon my timing today. In my defense, I was out with a couple friends (yes, I do have some) at Curry in a Hurry, where I made Chris DeVo get the Tikka Masala Meatballs (which he enjoyed) ... but that is not this. I opted for something different today ...
.. the Kadhai Chicken. Now yes, it does have the yum. It's got a little more spice-heat than some things, but not a severe burn. You'll be fine, but if you're nervous, get some naan also to wipe off your tongue. It is ... like I said, it does have the yum ... but it's probably going to be a 1-timer for me. It has a good meat-veggie balance with tomatoes, peppers, and onions. The rice is always good. It's a "damned with faint praise" moment. Surrounded by an amazing overall menu, something always has to fall below the midpoint. Do try it; it might be more your gig than mine.

Today we are going to talk about cheap plasticware. Trust me. I'm not even being judgemental. I don't make my eating decisions based on plasticware, and if you do, that story better involve a missing eye and a lawsuit that you actually won.

Anyway, this is probably the weakest cheapest plasticware I've ever gotten from any takeout place ever. EVER. And why, you ask, am I going this route? Because this fork can cleave a chunk of this chicken right in half without even trying; that's how tender the chicken is. And the cheese? All that cheese? It winds around these fork tines and BENDS THEM as you spaghettifically twirl it to chase the chicken.

This is one of the I'll never skip. Get on the couch, put on a little Shreya Ghoshal or Sunidhi Chauhan, close the blinds and pretend I'm in Chandigarh. I guess imaginations have a point after all.

Sooooo as of the time I stopped in, the hadn't been posted on social media or the website. Not one to miss my usual Friday noms, I had already picked out what other I was going to order ... only to find out issa Chicken Manchurian wrap tonight. With curry fries. With a drink.

This is not a disappointment, mind you.

The Chicken Manchurian wrap is overstuffed with an excellent chicken-veggies ratio. Let's just say you're not gonna miss out on either. Spicy? Not to me. More tangy, more juicy, more flavor than heat. You should be okay.
That, and I think I got a fresh batch of curry fries again. Ketchup *not* required, like at all.

So gooooo ... now that you knooooowww ...
