We had an awesome meeting last night! A big thanks to Kros Strain Brewing Company for hosting us! It's always so much fun when we take our meetings on the road, supporting local businesses, especially local breweries and beer-focused establishments.
Here are the minutes:
BUV Meeting minutes from May 12th, 2026
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 pm with 35 people in attendance.
Business was kept to a minimum because we had a special meeting at Kros Strain (KS) Brewing Co. to hold our mini-competition judging clone homebrew examples of KS’s famed Fairy Nectar Hazy IPA.
Tad began the competition with the history of KS and how they developed this award-winning beer. It was fun to hear about and even more fun getting to drink Fairy Nectar and homebrew examples in the barrel room of KS.
For this competition, Scot created scoring sheets to compare homebrew examples with actual Fairy Nectar. Four sensory profiles were used: Aroma, appearance, flavor, and mouthfeel. Each category was scored on a scale of 1-5 based on how closely the sample matched Fairy Nectar. Each member judging was given actual Fairy Nectar to compare to. After the judging, the points were tallied to determine whose beer was the closest example.
The following brewers submitted beer to the competition: Scott M, Scot, Jerrold, Kent, Ron, and Steve R.
All the beers were exceptionally brewed. And here are the results:
Scott M - 376 pts
Scot - 442 pts
Jerrold - 352 pts
Kent - 361 pts
Ron - 470 pts
Steve R - 447 pts
It was quite the competition, but in the end, Ron’s Fairy Nectar Clone was voted as the best clone of the bunch. Way to go, Ron, and well done to all the brewers!
However, the competition is not over. Each brewer also bottled their beer, and the brewers at KS will hold their own competition to see which beer they think is the best clone. Results aren’t out yet, but it’s sure to be a nail-biter.
We want to thank KS for hosting last night. It was awesome to get to hang out with BUV members at the brewery. Stay tuned for future announcements for holding our meetings at other local breweries and beer establishments throughout the greater Omaha area.
Our next meeting is on June 10th, 2026, at 7:00 pm in the German American Society Rathskeller. The style to brew is a mystery hop SMaSH beer. Happy brewing and drinking! And remember, “relax, don’t worry, have a homebrew.” - Charlie Papazian
Prost!
