The numbers speak for themselves. We kicked off Hunger Action Month with an incredible donation from the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints As part of their "America Gives" campaign, the church pledged to donate 6.5 million meals to 250 food banks across 50 states.

This week, Food Bank for the Heartland received their donation of 33,000 pounds of non-perishable food, which equates to 27,500 meals for Heartland neighbors in need!

THANK YOU to the Church of latter-day Saints and our friends with the Omaha Nebraska Millard Stake regional district for your generosity.

This donation adds up to much more than meals. It delivers hope, stability, and joy for Heartland children, families, seniors, and veterans, who need our support right now more than ever.

A big thanks to Connected Roots Care Center - CRCC for hosting us and several other community organizations at their Big Dreams Family Festival last Saturday!

At the Food Bank tent, families had the opportunity to learn more about our programs, and kids enjoyed a mini sorting activity. It was an inspiring day filled with joy and support, and we were honored to be a part of it. Thank you to CRCC, for the life-changing work you do for children and families!

When 30,944 pounds of pork feet pulls up to the loading dock …

😲😲😲😲

This unique and generous food donation—equaling more than 25,000 meals—had our warehouse team “hoofing” it! And while it may not be a donation we often receive here at the Food Bank, it’s an important reminder that the food our neighbors need comes in many forms.

It’s and we’re celebrating a special donation and a growing legacy of giving!

This week, Father Wayne Pavela—a retired priest and farmer from Columbus, Nebraska—donated nearly 21,000 pounds of farm-fresh corn to the Food Bank. That equates to nearly 17,500 meals!! 💛🌽💛🌽 And thanks to our volunteers and staff, this generous gift has already been repacked and distributed across the Heartland.

It’s a powerful reflection of our mission—neighbors helping neighbors.

For more than 30 years, Father Wayne has donated fresh corn, including more than 110,000 pounds in the past six years. We are deeply grateful to Father Wayne and every volunteer who made this possible. Your kindness helps ensure that more of our neighbors have access to healthy, fresh food—providing hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Six chefs. One unforgettable culinary experience. 🍽️

Earlier this year, our 2026 Celebrity Chef, Aarón Sánchez, made a vow: To return to Omaha and dine with a lucky auction winner—and last week he did!

Becky App, along with three guests, enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience with Chef Aarón at The Boiler Room. The evening featured a seven-course meal with dishes prepared by six local chefs who took part in our Celebrity Chef event, with Matt Brown of V. Mertz pairing a w**e with each course.

The food was amazing, but even more special was seeing so many talented chefs gathered in one place, sharing their passion for food and the community they serve.

We’re incredibly grateful to Chef Aarón, our local chefs—Joel Hassanali (Salted EDGE), Tim Nicholson (The Boiler Room Restaurant), Ben Maides (Au Courant Regional Kitchen), (Nick Stawhecker (Dante), David Utterback (Yosh*tomo), Paul Urban (Block 16)—and special guests, as well as our supporters who make Celebrity Chef and experiences like this possible.

We’re sweeping into with reason to celebrate! 🧡 A big thank you to our friends at WoodmenLife for their donation in support of our Food Bank! This generous gift goes toward the purchase of our Tomahawk Sweepers, which helps keep our Volunteer Center in tip-top shape while maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for our amazing volunteers and staff. These machines significantly cut down the time it takes our team to prepare the rooms, giving us more time to focus on the ultimate goal—preparing food for our neighbors.

Every week, our trucks set out across 93 counties—covering more than 5,316 miles from the Nebraska Panhandle to western Iowa—to reach our neighbors who are facing food insecurity.
