Stop paying for "shelfware"! 🛑 Many businesses are overspending on Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses that employees aren't even using.

Is your AI investment actually delivering ROI? Here’s how to audit and optimize:

📊 Check the Data: Use the Microsoft 365 admin center to track active usage vs. assigned licenses. 💡 Train, Don't Just Cut: Low usage often stems from a lack of training. Host lunch-and-learns or appoint "Copilot Champions." ⚖️ Set a Policy: Define which roles actually need AI tools (like data analysts) vs. those that don’t. 🗓️ Audit Early: Review your usage at least 90 days before renewal to right-size your contract.

Read the full guide:

Learn how to audit your Microsoft 365 Copilot usage to uncover hidden licensing waste, reduce unnecessary costs, and optimize your organization’s AI deployment.

Business acquisitions usually come with a mix of excitement and headaches. New clients, new systems, new staff, new processes.

But there’s one bonus extra no one wants: A hidden ransomware infection 🦠

And yes… it’s happening more often than you’d think.

Cybersecurity researchers have revealed that every Akira ransomware attack they studied between June and October 2025 started the same way: The victim had acquired another company.

And that company brought along compromised hardware the new owners didn’t even know existed 😬

In other words: Two businesses merged, the attackers had already slipped into one, and the infection simply moved into its new home along with everything else.

The weak spot in most cases?
ďż˝
Unpatched SonicWall SSL VPN devices. That’s the gear used for secure remote access.

A new vulnerability was discovered in July, and Akira jumped on it fast.

Even businesses with MFA (multi factor authentication) were affected if their devices weren’t fully patched.

SonicWall later released an urgent fix for a high-severity flaw (CVE-2025-40601, for the techies), which could let attackers crash firewalls or break in remotely. Gen7 and Gen8 devices were affected. Older models were safe.
ďż˝
We don’t yet know whether attackers targeted companies because they were being acquired,or whether these businesses were simply running vulnerable equipment and just happened to be acquired later.

Either way, the lesson is the same…

🔎 If you’re buying or merging with another company, treat their IT like an unknown quantity.
ďż˝
Don’t assume things are safe. Don’t assume things are patched. Don’t assume you’re starting from a clean slate.

A proper cyber health check, before, during and after the acquisition, can save you from inheriting a very expensive surprise (I can help with that).
ďż˝
💭 If you were acquiring a business tomorrow, how confident would you feel about the state of their IT?

Windows 11 is getting braver (or bolder, depending on your point of view) with AI.

And File Explorer is the latest place where Microsoft is sprinkling its magic ✨

You may have already seen things like Ask Copilot or Semantic Indexing pop up around the system.

Now there’s something new in the mix: “AI actions” in the right-click menu.

These are basically shortcuts that let Windows hand your files to an AI-powered tool without you having to open the app yourself.

For example, if you right-click an image, you might see options to:

• Blur the background
• Erase unwanted objects
• Remove the background entirely
• Describe what’s in the photo
• Run a visual search

Behind the scenes, Windows simply sends the file to Photos, Paint, Edge, or a Microsoft 365 app. Whichever one does the job.

You choose the action, Windows does the organizing, and the AI does the clever stuff. It’s smooth.

And for documents, if you have Microsoft 365 installed, you can even get summaries, key insights or table conversions, all without opening Word or Excel.

Perfect when you’re in a rush and just want the gist of something fast.

But for anyone feeling like AI is creeping into every corner of Windows… you’re in control.
ďż˝
If these actions feel like too much, you can turn them off in Settings > Apps > Actions.

The “AI actions” menu will still appear, but it’ll be empty.

Whether you love AI or prefer to keep things simple, at least Windows gives you a choice. And honestly, that’s the balance we want: Powerful tools for the people who want them, and a clear off switch for the people who don’t 👍
ďż˝
🤔 Would you keep AI actions on for quick edits and summaries, or is this one feature you’d switch off straight away?

The Windows Search box is getting a major IQ boost! 🧠💻

Microsoft is rolling out "Ask Copilot" to the Windows 11 taskbar. Instead of just finding files, you can now: 📂 Open specific templates 🎤 Use voice commands 🛠️ Adjust system settings instantly

The best part? It’s strictly opt-in, so you keep total control over your workflow and privacy. 🔒

Check out the full update:

Windows 11 is adding a new Ask Copilot feature to the taskbar, giving the search box AI-powered abilities to understand your intent, execute tasks, and streamline productivity. Learn what it does, how it works, and why it’s opt‑in for privacy and control.

One of my favorite things about Windows 11 is how some of the simplest tools quietly become the most powerful.

And right now, Snipping Tool is the perfect example ✨

What used to be a tiny utility for grabbing a quick screenshot has grown into a genuinely impressive all-in-one capture and editing tool.

Yet it still feels wonderfully simple.

No manuals, no tech jargon, no stress.

These days, Snipping Tool can do far more than take a snapshot of your screen.
ďż˝
You can crop, highlight, draw, blur sensitive info, add notes, and save or share the result in seconds.

It feels a bit like having a lightweight photo editor built into Windows.

But here’s where it gets surprisingly clever: Snipping Tool now lets you extract text from anything on your screen. Website, PDF, error message, photo… doesn’t matter.

Highlight it, and like magic, the text is yours to copy. It’s ridiculously handy when something won’t let you copy text normally.

It also has a color picker, which grabs the exact color code of anything you point at. Designers love it, but honestly, anyone fiddling with branding, slides or social media will appreciate it.

And my new favorite feature?

🎥 Screen recording.
ďż˝
Need to show a colleague how to do something?
ďż˝
Want to document a weird glitch?

Hit record, capture the steps, and share the video.

You can even turn those recordings into GIFs, which is perfect for quick “do it like this” instructions.

What I love most is that the tool hasn’t become complicated. Everything is still a click or two away.
ďż˝
What would make your day easier? Better screenshots, quick videos, or instant text extraction?

If you’ve ever wished you could talk to your PC the way you talk to your smart speaker you might be pleased to hear that Windows is getting closer 💬💻

At the end of last year, Microsoft introduced a new wake phrase: “Hey, Copilot”.

Say it out loud, and Copilot pops up ready to help. A little like the old “Hey, Cortana” days (remember those? 😅).

But now Microsoft is taking the idea a step further.

According to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, they’re working on something called a “semantic goodbye word”.

That’s a fancy way of saying you’ll be able to end a Copilot voice session by simply saying “Bye, Copilot”.

Hands-free in. Hands-free out.

A full voice loop without touching a single key 🙌

Here’s the important part though: This update applies to the Copilot app that anyone can use on Windows, not just the special Copilot+ PCs with built-in AI chips.

So, if you’re using Windows 11, or even if you’re still hanging on to Windows 10 (please tell me you’re not), you’ll likely get this upgrade.

Much wider audience. Much more useful.

The feature should be rolling out now.

Microsoft wants Copilot to feel more natural, more human, and more helpful… almost like a colleague you can call over and politely dismiss when you’re done 😉

👉 Would you use voice commands like “Hey, Copilot” and “Bye, Copilot,” or do you still prefer clicking and typing?

You may have noticed that Microsoft has been steadily sprinkling smart upgrades throughout the system.

Now, the latest ones land right inside File Explorer.

And honestly? I think they’re clever.

We already have “Ask Copilot” when you right-click a file. It’s a handy way to get AI-generated answers about whatever you select.

But now Windows 11 is testing something even smoother: “Ask Microsoft 365 Copilot” in the Home tab of File Explorer.

You hover over a recent file… tap “Ask M365 Copilot”… Windows sends it to the Copilot app… and you get a neat summary or key insights.
ďż˝
No opening Word. No loading a huge spreadsheet. No jumping between apps.

Quick answers so you can get on with your day ⚡

This version is designed specifically for Office documents, so it’s better at handling Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The right-click “Ask Copilot” still works too. It’s more general-purpose. But both are powered by the same underlying AI (ChatGPT is doing the heavy lifting).

There’s also a small but very practical improvement coming to the Home tab: A new folder icon that jumps you straight to wherever the file lives.

Simple. Useful. The kind of tiny thing you notice only when it’s missing 📁

And Microsoft isn’t stopping there.

If you’re using a Copilot+ PC (the newer devices with AI chips called NPUs), Windows is also testing a universal writing assistant that appears wherever you type online. LinkedIn, web forms, email fields… anywhere.

It can tidy up grammar, fix clunky sentences, or even rewrite your text in different tones like friendly, professional, or concise.

Microsoft is slowly (or, not so slowly) weaving AI into the tools you use every day, not behind menus or separate apps.
ďż˝

There’s a tiny little Windows app that’s suddenly grown up… and it might save you a chunk of time every week.

Notepad.
ďż˝
Yes, the same Notepad many of you probably last opened sometime around 2004 😄

Microsoft has been quietly giving it a makeover, and now you can create tables in the app… just like in Word.

Before you roll your eyes thinking it sounds fiddly, honestly, it’s not. It’s easier than Word in some cases.
ďż˝
You open Notepad, look at the formatting toolbar at the top, and click the new Table button.

A little pop-up appears where you choose how many rows and columns you want, for example, 3 by 4.

Tap Insert and… POW… Nice tidy table 💥

So now you can make things like:
ďż˝
• Neat to-do lists
• Simple comparisons
• Tracking sheets
• Client notes

…all without opening Word, waiting for it to load, and wondering why your document suddenly jumped to page 9 for no reason 😉

Last year, Notepad got rich text formatting. In other words, you can use bold, italic, underline, bullet points and the other things you’d normally expect in a word processor.

All this new formatting is what Microsoft calls “lightweight”. Translation: It doesn’t slow your computer down ⚡️
ďż˝
I love that.

If you prefer Notepad the old way (plain, clean, nothing fancy) you can turn these features off in Settings.

Even things like auto-recovery or Notepad’s Copilot integration (which only works if you pay for Microsoft 365 Copilot anyway) can be disabled.

But I think this is one of those small but mighty updates. The kind that helps you stay organized without feeling like you’re wrestling with software.

🤔 Tell me, do you prefer your tools simple and clean, or do you like having more power and features at your fingertips?
