Echo Valley Farm, Wisconsin

Echo Valley Farm, Wisconsin A return to sustainable living and respect for the Earth are core values at Echo Valley. We enjoy wild foods and have a productive heirloom apple orchard.

Now in our 19th year, Echo Valley continues to move towards energy independence and food sovereignty. With numerous gardens, we are growing healing herbs, indigenous corn and squash, and the bulk of our food. We supply about 85% of our electricity via solar and are nearly fossil fuel free from LP. Our Bakery will be open from May 28 through October 31, 2021. We are engaged with social and environm

ental transformation throughout our state, region and world. Our focus is celebrating the human spirit and what is possible.

Hey Friends!
Are you interested in an organic method to control invasive shrubs? Come learn about a new technique that you can use to help the Friends in our parks, or on your own land!
We have partnered with UW Madison and Vernon County Land and Water to host a free training on Critical Period Cutting for woody invasive species. UW-M First Detector Network will demonstrate this method to eliminate plants like honeysuckle, buckthorn and autumn olive without using herbicide in this community science project.
Test areas will be implemented in our County Parks, with a goal of finding other properties to try this technique. Protocols, methods, as well as hand saws and loppers will be provided to participants willing to volunteer on eligible areas.
Where: Sidie Hollow County Park campground by the boat landing at Lower Campgrounds
When: Friday May 22 from 5 PM to 6:30 PM
Who: Land owners, land managers, volunteers, and interested practitioners that want to learn more about critical period cutting for invasive woody invasive management.
We’ll have water and some snacks…bring gloves and clothes appropriate to the weather to try the techniques! We'll be near the campground, so not a long walk, and you can just watch, too.

Another sweet visit with John Hansen's Environmental Sustainability Class. Every year they drop by to learn a bit about what we are doing. Great class! This year it was on May Day, so of course we added a quick history lesson on the beginning of this Int'l Day since 1886, Chicago. We talked about the Stand at Standing Rock which is now a decade old, but data centers, transmission lines and other environmental disruptions face us here in the Driftless. Good students. Interested in learning. It was fun.
