These sweet berries were picked on the Lake Superior Trail in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park this past summer. They were the most welcome treat after a hot sweaty descent from the eastern trailhead down to lake level. A chance to lean the weight of my pack against a boulder and pop each berry in my mouth one at a time savoring the unique flavor of each fruit.

So so sadly, this treasure of a park, and these generous berry bushes, continue to be threatened by the proposed Highland Copperwood Mine. Right now is an extremely critical time in this fight!!! I am feeling extra excited to announce a little full circle rebrand with the roll out of my new logo courtesy of . 🤗🥳

The name Full Circle Farm was a good idea that never felt quite right. It was also a good idea that quite a few other farms already had. I am thankful for the winter season as a time to ponder and the result is Earth Apple Flora & Fungi.

This name draws on multiple inspirations including the craggy wild apple trees surrounding my garden from all directions, my love of the humble potato and its French name Pomme de Terre, or literally translated, Earth Apple. For me, the name is an invitation to dig your feet deep into the dirt and enjoy the gourmet goodness that the earth provides. Thank you to all for joining me on my evolution through this ever-changing and tasty journey. 🗺️🌱🌞

Full Circle Friends!

Here is an update on the Highline Copper Mine due to start building operations this summer with some site preparation already in the works. The mine will operate feet from the Porcupine Mountians Wilderness State Park. The idea that this will not have lasting and irreparable damage to some of the most stunning old growth in the Midwest is laughable. I am mourning for the damage that has been done and still clinging to, maybe foolish, hope that we can do better. 💔

A few cherished fall rituals. Shelling dry beans and planting garlic.

This is my third year growing and regrowing dry beans. Good Mother Stallard began it all and the varieties have expanded from there. I have yet to notice any cross-pollination despite very little effort being put into preventing it, but I happily await the day that I crack open a dry crispy shell to a new color combination. 🫘🧄
