For all of the tens of thousands of sunsets setting behind the same trees that we have seen over the last 60+ years , they never fail to impress and amaze me. If you look closely you can also see the moon making its appearance in this one. Some things just never get old.

In year two of our project to reclaim our pond, we have cleared out the last bit of undergrowth of various invasive species while still maintaining a substantial riparian zone around the pond to serve as nesting areas and refuge for wildlife. Many Russian Olive and multiflora rose went through the chipper. After we made it to the pond a surprise awaited us. Fourteen years ago, a wedding at Monterre had goldfish bowls with live goldfish as centerpieces. As many people didn't want them, and we didn't want to condemn them to a brief life, we gave them a chance by putting them in our pond. We never knew it until recently but a trip to the water's edge revealed a couple of hundred goldfish thriving and happily swimming in our pond. I guess it worked out best for all!
