Christopher Bridge Wines

Christopher Bridge Wines "The whole of any wine must always be more than the sum of its parts."

Satori Springs Vineyard is part of an 80-acre family estate home also to cattle, timber and an abundance of wildlife. Our farm is LIVE (Low-Input Viticulture & Enology) certified, owned and managed by the Carlberg family since 1952. Chris Carlberg, our vigneron and winemaker, tends our farm, its vines, fruit, and wines and has led the Christopher Bridge brand to its current successes.

Hear ye, hear ye!
This is Not an Oregon Pinot Noir glass (although it resembles the style), but Maximilian Riedel obviously knows glassware (his family is the premier supplier of wine glasses to the world)and here we catch him using a “regular” Pinot Noir glass for white wine. You can, as well! Try it! Cheers!

And we thought our undulating rolling hills (where even specifically designed machines often don’t work well) are challenging. Obviously, the vineyards in Baden-Baden are much more so and, understandably, the wines are in a world-class by themselves. Cheers!

The vines are sprouting, and from fairy tale views of Baden Baden in the Schwarzwald to steep hillside vineyards along the Moselle, Germany's vineyards, and countryside around them, are some of the most spectacular in the world.

And with an incline of 65°, at times almost vertical, Weinbau am Calmont, Calmont Vineyard, is the steepest vineyard in the world.

Part of the romantic wine village of Bremm, Bremmer Calmont is on one of the Moselschleifen (bends along the Moselle River), and working it takes a complete lack of any fear of heights, sturdy shoes, together with a passion for almost 100 percent manual labour.

And that includes tying each vine to its own two metre (6.1/2 ft) wooden stake, as well as carrying slate soil, washed down by winter rains, back up the hillside.

On this 56th Anniversary of Earth Day, let’s remember that we all can do something for our planet that makes a difference each day. Reduce, reuse, recycle and plant😉Last month, while the vines were still in their dormancy, we were able to plant over 1,000 young Coastal Redwood seedlings on a Northern slope we hope to transform into a forest years from now on a dare and much hope. Happy Earth Day! 🌱🌲🌳

The first of our many varietals to ripen, Siegerrebe, is unique in that it shows off with hues of orange and pink. The aromatics are equally pretty.

A little wine history on this 590th birthday of Riesling. Our Satori Springs Estate Vineyard is home to two Riesling hybrids, namely Ehrenfelser and Kerner. The first, a hybrid between Riesling and Knipperle, makes for a deft and flavorful wine and has been hugely popular in our tasting room. The latter, a hybrid between Riesling and Trollinger, shows more restraint, yet pairs well with the most elegant of white wine dishes. It is no surprise, then, that a blend of both, Ehrenfelser and Kerner, takes flavors, finesse and compatibility with either sipping or food pairing another step further. Cheers and “almost” Happy Spring!

Riesling-Geburtstag... Riesling, Germany's most important grape variety, celebrates its 590th birthday today, and Rheingau and Mosel have probably the longest Riesling tradition.

Documents from there date back to 1435 and 1465 respectively, with the word "Riesling" filed for the first time on 13 March 1435.

And 18th century Trulli are one of Rheinhessen's characteristic features.

On the left bank of the Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate and largest of Germany's wine regions, Rheinhessen has a wine-growing tradition dating back thousands of years... to the days of the Roman occupation.

And it's home to the oldest documented vineyard site in Germany, the Niersteiner Glöck, with a deed of gift from 742 proving viticulture was practised on the Roter Hang back then. Today its 2.1 hectares, about 7 acres, are planted with organically cultivated Riesling and Pinot Noir vines.
