Cheese Underground

After 10 years of events with Wisconsin Cheese Originals, the time has come for me to sunset the organization and focus on my new baby: Firefly Coffeehouse & Artisan Cheese. I'll be adding a merchandising case with cheese on May 1 and a whole slate of cheese boards with beer & wine pairings. In the meantime, be sure and check out my Cheese Underground page - that's where I'll be posting cheesy stuff in the future. https://www.facebook.com/CheeseUndergroundMedia/

Cheese Underground is a blog and podcast written and co-produced by Jeanne Carpenter, an American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional.

Great news for Landmark Creamery!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Landmark Creamery has a home! After years of running a nomadic cheese company, we will have a building at 6895 Paoli Rd, Belleville, WI.

We won't be making cheese there (yet) but we will age cheese and have a small shop (Landmark Creamery Provisions) that sells our cheese, some favorites from other producers, accompaniments, grilled cheese, coffee and baked goods.

Come get a preview this Sunday, October 8 as we celebrate our first event in Paoli at the Paoli Fall Fest, 10-5.

About Jeanne

Jeanne Carpenter is a cheese geek, but she didn't start out that way. Raised on Velveeta on a family farm in Wisconsin, after graduating from college, she worked as a city government reporter, earning multiple awards. She then transferred to the corporate world, but escaped her cubicle and returned to agriculture, serving as spokesperson for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. She worked nine years as the communications director for the Dairy Business Innovation Center, a non-profit widely credited for helping reinvigorate the Wisconsin dairy industry in the 2000's. She transferred to specialty cheese full-time in 2013, when she joined the team at Metcalfe's Markets as the specialty cheese buyer, selecting more than 300 cheeses from around the world and working to build relationships and new markets for Wisconsin artisan cheesemakers. Today, she and her husband, Uriah, own and manage Firefly Coffeehouse & Artisan Cheese in Oregon, Wisconsin. She also teaches classes and hosts an annual cheese festival, Cheesetopia, with her organization, Wisconsin Cheese Originals. You'll find her writing and sharing about cheese on her Cheese Underground Blog & Podcast. Her motto is: Have Fun. Do Good. Drink Coffee. Eat Cheese.

Had an absolute blast at the Meet The Cheesemaker event today! Got to meet cheesemakers from some of my favorite companies and also met a lot of great people from some of my new favorite cheesemakers. I tried every single cheese offered and there wasn't a single bad one there. Really looking forward to attending again next year.
